2 EARLY LIFE Anne was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany Her parents were Otto Frank and Edith Frank-Hollander and she had an older sister named Margot She excelled at reading and writing and she got a diary for her 13 th birthday, where she recorded all her experiences She moved to live with her grandmother in Aachen, Germany after Hitler’s party won elections in Frankfurt

3 LIFE IN HIDING TThe Franks moved into Achterhuis, translated into Secret Annex, on July 6, 1942 TThey stayed in the rear part of the house and to make sure no one could find it, they covered the door with a bookcase TThe Secret Annex consisted of three stories, with two rooms and a bathroom on the first floor, two rooms on the second floor, and an attic TThe Franks and two other families, the van Pels, and a close friend Pfeffer stayed in the Secret Annex

4 CAPTURE AND DEATH OOn August 4, 1944, someone who was never identified, gave German soldiers the location of the Secret Annex and the Franks, van Pels and Pfeffer were captured TThey were taken to RSHA, a security office, to be questioned and kept overnight TThey were then sent to the Punishment Barracks because since they were arrested while hiding, they were considered criminals MMargot and Anne died from typhus, their mother died from starvation, and their father Otto was the only survivor

5 VALOR AAnne always stayed positive when she was staying in the Annex, even when hearing sirens and bombs go off all around her SShe refused to believe that she wouldn’t get out of the camps alive SShe stayed strong and courageous and her confident attitude gained some more bread rations for Margot, their mother, and herself WWhen the Annex was invaded, the soldiers threw the contents of her diary and she stood there with courage and didn’t give in to the sorrow HHer teachers back in the Netherlands described her as full or courage and she always spoke her mind SShe used her diary as a retreat from the fear and wrote about every experience she had
