2 IF THE WORLD WERE A VILLAGE…  Imagine if the entire population of the Earth (all 7 billion people) were represented as 100 people. These 100 people all lived together in one village. Each person would represent 70 million people from around the world.  Guess how this village would be divided up according to the categories. Write the numbers in each blank. Keep in mind that the numbers should add to 100 in each category.

5  51 would be women, 49 would be men  30 would be children, 70 would be adults  82 would be non-white, 18 would be white  90 would be heterosexual, 10 would be homosexual

6 RELIGIONS  1 would be Jewish  32 would be Christians  14 would be Hindu  6 would be Buddhist  20 would be Muslim  15 would be without religion (or athiest)  9 would be Animists  2 would be believe in other religions

7 CLEAN WATER ACCESS  83 people have access to a source of safe water either in their homes or within a short distance  17 people do not have access to a safe source of water

8 LANGUAGES  3 would speak Russian  9 would speak Hindi  7 would speak Spanish  9 would speak English  22 would speak Chinese (18- Mandarin)  4 would speak Arabic  3 would speak Bengali  3 would speak Portuguese  The rest would speak Indonesian, Japanese, German, French, or other languages

9 FOOD AVAILABILITY  50 would be undernourished  16 would be severely undernourished  34 people always have enough to eat  1 would be dying of starvation while 15 were overweight

10 PUBLIC OR HOUSEHOLD SANITATION  82 people have access to public or household sewage disposal  18 people do not have access to public or household sewage disposal
