14  This case is the only one which extends to the grandchild of a freedman. It also reflects the experience of many researchers in this field of U.S. history: partial documentation, no WPA narrative, and gaps in the record. However, it also includes a criminal warrant record, photos and other documents to allow inferences the other cases lack. Also, it shows how some families began to “pass” into white society: “Andies” is listed as both colored and white on the same bench warrant roster, “Adock” is born black but dies white. Dates on documents are approximate unless clearly legible in the photo. Story 4 Overview: Wesley McCoy
