21 Official and Team Areas 2014 OHSAA Preseason Soccer Manual: The Board of Control recommends that when possible, team benches be placed on opposite sides of the field. This will be at the direction of the home Athletic Department. When teams are placed on opposite sides of the field, the team area shall extend 10 yards from the halfway line on each side of the field of play. The home team shall supply a person who is situated at a table at the half line on each side of the field to signal substitutions. If time is kept at field level, the official time shall be on the home side.

38 Substitutions beckoned A “substitute” becomes a “player” when beckoned onto the field by the Referee A substitute MUST enter the game once beckoned by the Referee A substitute may be withdrawn, but only before the referee beckons Substitutes may not enter field without approval of Referee

39 Substitutions Rule 3-3-2 and 3-4-1b Prior to entering the game after a goal or when a player is injured, players must check in with the scorer/timer – or referee or AR, if there is no scorer/timer. Player must then wait until beckoned onto the field by the referee.

40 Cautioned Player A cautioned player MUST leave the field of play …. May be replaced by a substitute A cautioned player may return at the next legal substitution opportunity

41 Disqualified Play Disqualified Player A disqualified player may be replaced by a substitute, if: Individual is disqualified between periods, i.e. no one is considered to be a “player” between periods. A disqualified player MUST leave the field of play and may NOT return to the game Current Knowledge

42 Injured Player An injured player MUST leave the field of play …. May be replaced by a substitute An injured player may return at the next legal substitution opportunity If a player exhibits signs of concussion, that player may NOT return to the game and is not allowed to play in any other game that day (State of Ohio law).

43 Goalkeeper Injury Rule 3-3-2b(2) If the referee stops the clock to check any player for injury, that player must be removed - and, even if the player is the GK, - replaced.

44 Substitutions Rule 3-3-2b(1) Limitations on coaching during injury situations were removed. Whether a short or a prolonged injury stoppage, coaches from both teams may coach — i.e. give tactical and technical instructions, lend emotional support, etc.

45 ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT: Only at team’s next substitution opportunity after inspection IMPROPER EQUIPMENT: At next stoppage in game after inspection BLOOD RULE: At any stoppage in game, but only after inspection INJURED PLAYER: If not subbed, may return at any stoppage in game Playing Short-Handed – Return All returns must be only when beckoned by the Referee

46 Playing Rules Referee shall order time stopped during substitutions, when a team repeatedly substitutes to consume time. The repetition may be construed as unsporting conduct.

57 Equipment Inspection Referee should inspect players’ equipment prior to match. Referee shall prevent player with non- conforming equipment from playing. Referee shall ask each coach if their teams are properly equipped. Current Knowledge

75 Equipment Restrictions Players’ equipment shall not be dangerous to themselves or any other player (including any kind of jewelry). This is the Referee’s judgment and is final without question. Current Knowledge
