Today’s Lesson: Scale CCSS MATH CONTENT - 7.G.A.1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale. CCSS MATH CONTENT - 7.G.A.2 Draw (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and with technology) geometric shapes with given conditions. Focus on constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle.

What is Scale? Scale is the ratio of the size of a model or other representation, to the actual size of the object.

What is Architecture? Architecture is the art or practice of designing and constructing buildings and other structures. Many people are involved in the process: Architect Architectural designer Architectural technologist Drafter

What is an Architect? An Architect is a person who designs structures and in many cases also supervises their construction. In 2014, Architects made between $44,930 and $119,370 a year. Median income was $74,000. To become licensed, candidates must earn a professional degree in architecture from schools of architecture that have degree programs accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Requires at least a bachelors degree (~4 years) of college, and in most cases a masters degree. As a professional discipline, architecture spans both the arts and the sciences. Students must have an understanding of the arts and humanities, as well as a basic technical understanding of structures and construction. Skills in communication, both visual and verbal, are essential. While knowledge and skills must be developed, design is ultimately a process of critical thinking, analysis, and creative activity.

Types of Architecture There are many types of Architecture, these include: Egyptian and Early African Classical (Greek and Roman) Gothic Renaissance Asian Modern Post Modern & Organic As we go through each type, try and identify some geometric shapes.

Principles of Architecture: Utility – For what is the structure going to be used? Is it useful and does it function well for the people trying to use it? Construction – How is it going to stand up over time, will it last? What is it made of? Form – What does it look like? How does the way it look make people feel? Feng shui – How do different elements in the building flow together? How are energies directed?

Architecture Project: You will be broken up into groups, which will be assigned by the teacher: Each group will choose different architectural project from the following: 1. Movie Theater2. Playground 3. Stadium 4. Middle School5. One-Story House 6. Zoo 7. Amusement Park8. Pool 9. Castle 10. Aquarium11. Community Park 12. Museum Each student in the group will have one of the following rolls: Designer – Will design the layout to scale of the project Proposer – Will write down what their project entailed Presenter – They will present their completed project to the class
