3 7 Eagle Requirements 1. Be active in troop and patrol for at least six months as a Life Scout. 2. Demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath (Promise) and Scout Law. 3. Earn a total of 21 merit badges 1.12 Eagle Required (white ringers) 2. 9 Elective 4. While a Life Scout, serve actively for a period of six months in one or more of the positions of responsibility

4 7 Eagle Requirements (cont.) 5. While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or community. 6. Take part in a Scoutmaster conference. 7. Successfully complete an Eagle Scout Board of Review.

5 Be active in troop and patrol for at least six months as a Life Scout. v Troop processes the Life Rank with council using the advancement report triggering sending Eagle Packet. v Transfers must be in your troop – 6 months. v Active means –Participating in Troop meetings –Participating in Troop events

6 Demonstrate Scout spirit … v Review Scout spirit during Life and Eagle SM Conference v Eagle demonstrates true Scout spirit at all times. v Scout spirit –Living the Scout Oath –Living the Scout Law –Being a true example of the ideals of Scouting v Scoutmaster and other leaders will observe, coach, encourage Scout in Scout Spirit.

7 Earn a total of 21 merit badges. v Troop leaders meet with Scout to review MB status. v Scout encouraged to set goals as part of his advancement plan. v Review time line – several badges can take up to 3 months or more to complete. –Physical Fitness, Personal Management, Family Life, and Environmental Science v Total of 21 required – 12 Eagle required/9 elective

8 … six months in one or more positions of responsibility v Clock begins after advancing to Life scout. v Boy Scout Troop positions –Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide, Order of the Arrow troop representative, den chief, scribe, librarian, historian, quartermaster, junior assistant Scoutmaster, chaplain aide, or instructor. v Varsity Scout Team postions –Captain, co-captain, program manager, squad leader, team secretary, Order of the Arrow troop representative, librarian, historian, quartermaster, chaplain aide, instructor, or den chief.

9 Plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a Service Project … v Plan –Originate the idea and develop the Step-by-Step activities/instructions to complete the project. u Key is: not routine or something someone has done the planning for already. u Not just providing labor to so something. u If it could be a “Patrol Project”, then not Eagle Project Worthy! v Develop –Determine the steps, materials, labor, safety, cost, and fundraising activities required. v Give Leadership –Manage the project – not do –Involve others and motivate –Solve problems and issues –Not let Adults take control

10 Take part in a Scoutmaster conference. v Conducted once all requirements are met. –Completed 6 months active Leadership and Participation –Merit Badges completed (12 required, 9 elective) –Eagle Project developed, executed, concluded –Eagle Application Completed and Reviewed –Life Ambitions and Goals statement written –Letters of Recommendation received and sealed v Review with Scout. –Status in being ready for an Eagle BOR –Prepare Scout for what to expect during Eagle BOR –Highlight accomplishments and set goals for service to troop as an Eagle Scout

11 Successfully complete an Eagle Scout Board of Review v Come prepared. –Uniform complete, neat and clean –Badges of Rank, Position, etc displayed appropriately –Scout Handbook –Relaxed and Confident v Be on time. v Address the Eagle Board while answering questions. v Speak up and know Eagle Project.

12 Responsibilities of Scout v Complete required number of Merit Badges v Complete leadership Requirement v Demonstrate Scout Spirit v Develop and execute Eagle Project v Complete the Eagle Application v Request Letters of Recommendation v Write Life Ambitions and Goals Statement v Meet with Scoutmaster and Troop v Complete Scoutmaster Conference v Complete Eagle BOR v Allow sufficient time to meet age Requirement

13 Project Selection and Development v Identify project idea and beneficiary. –Not Routine or just Labor –Non-Profit, Church, School, Community, etc. v Discuss proposed plan with Scoutmaster for approval. –May require rework/multiple drafts v Develop approved project using BSA Project Workbook. v Review Project Workbook with Scoutmaster. v Meet with and obtain approval signatures. –Beneficiary, Scoutmaster, Committee, District Eagle Advisor –Each may request additional work in Project Workbook v Begin Project once all approvals are obtained.

14 Project Workbook v Can use Electronic or Hardcopy v Project Details – recommend –Present Condition – reiterate why project is needed –Method – Steps activities, instructions, drawings on how – Note should also address Fundraising, permits, etc. –Materials Used – Table (Description, Quantity, Cost/Loaned, Extended Cost) –Project Helpers – List of type and quantity of helpers –Schedule – Time estimate for activities – Not Real Dates –Safety Hazards – Anticipate and how to minimize or resolve – includes safety briefing for workers

15 Project Workbook (cont.) v Carrying Out Project –Sign-in list with Name, Date, Time In, Time – Out –Materials Required to Complete u Repeat Planed List now with Changes and Difference v Changes –Description of Leadership Decisions made during project –Why, alternative, reasons –Must be made by Eagle Candidate – Not Adults u Suggestions/Alternatives from adults are OK v Pictures – Provide descriptions v Page Numbers very helpful v Must be I did – not Dad, Mom, or other adult

16 After Project is Complete v Complete Project Workbook –Final/Post materials list, total hours, final pictures –Story of Changes/Management activities (lessons learned). v Complete Eagle Application v Request Letters of Recommendation (Must Be Sealed) –Parent, Religious, Educational, Employer, Other v Write Life Ambitions and Goals Statement –One page describing impact of scouting on your life goals –One page listing accomplishments (scout, school, church, etc) v Scoutmaster Conference v Eagle Board of Review

17 Eagle Application v Black or Blue Ink v Current revision (April 1, 1999) 2006 printing v References – complete address and phone numbers v Merit Badges – reviewed against actual blue cards v Dates are Important (Order, Timeline, etc). v Complete through Requirement 6 before 18 th birthday –Certification by Applicant –Unit Approval (Unit Leader and Committee Chairperson) v Eagle Board of Review can be scheduled/completed with in 6 months after 18 th birthday.
