© 2006 Open Grid Forum 5 Discussion Points (Pros/Cons) CCGrid co-location may increase attendance & boost eScience Convention Center is reportedly one of the best in France INRIA well connected and possible EU partner GGF/OGF has not had an event in France Forced to a T-F schedule with overlap T-W (and Friday is Memorial Day weekend) Not a strong local enterprise base (Paris, Geneva, Grenoble all within a 1-2 hour train ride) Sponsorship money likely spent on Exhibition (which may fail given current targets), not on our sponsorship opportunities Extra hop from International Airport hub

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 6 Option 2 – Barcelona, Spain Date: 2-6 June (or 15-19 June) Barcelo Sants Hotel (4-star) “Best” of 4 options provided (based on cost) Meeting space in hotel Direct access to Central Rail Station and Underground Sleeping room costs – 135 - 150 euro (B&B) www.barcelosants.com

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 8 Discussion Points (Pros/Cons) GGF/OGF have never been in this part of Europe BSC a strong partner in OGF-EU; Good local support Barcelona is a popular place for Europeans Hotel is well connected to Airport and other parts of city (though inland and near industrial park) Reasonable meeting room rates Extra hop from International Hub June dates = hot weather and busy/pricey season for Barcelona Wireless costs based on Telefonica’s sponsorship

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 9 Option 3 – Darmstadt, Germany Dates: June 16-20 GSI is primary local host Accelerator facility for Heavy Ion Beams (plus other research) Support from local Tech university Darmstadtium Center (opens Jan 1) Sleeping rooms 60 – 120 euro (B&B)

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 10 Darmstadt Business Model Revenue 300350400 Registration Revenue $160,300$187,000$215,000 Sponsorships Lanyards $3,000 Reception $15,000 Give Aways $3,000 Other Income $2,000 Total Revenue $183,300$210,000$238,000 Expenses Venue Expenses 69,800 Food & Beverage 67,86075,75883,655 Other Expenses 48,95050,45051,350 Total Expenses 186,610196,008204,805 OGF Staff Overhead 20,000 Estimated Surplus/Loss ($23,310)($6,008)$13,195

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 11 Discussion Points (Pros/Cons) 25-minute train ride from Frankfurt am Main Airport Everything within walking distance and reasonable hotel costs GSI covering network costs Darmstadt not considered a key German city; close enough to draw enterprise from Frankfurt? Convention center is new, but expensive Local hosts are not well known in Grid circles People willing to go to Darmstadt for a second grid conference in Europe within 3 weeks?

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 13 OGF24 September/October 2008 Proposals received from: Singapore (Grid Forum Singapore) Taipei, Taiwan (Academia Sinica & NCHC) Decision desired as soon as is feasible

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 16 Discussion Points (Pros/Cons) NCHC and ASGC are strongest grid players in Taiwan with significant government backing Both have proven track record of good events However, these two don’t normally collaborate perhaps due to competition for funding Reasonable hotel, venue, food costs and favorable exchange rate Co-locate with ISGC and Geo-Grid Workshop Probably ONLY opportunity to go there due to Beijing 2008 Taiwan is a long flight from US but shorter than Singapore Few EU carriers fly there Dates close to EGEE conference (late September)

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 17 Option 2 – Singapore Dates: Flexible at this point (mid-October possible) Biopolis Conference Center Hotels ~20 mins away requiring chartered buses In conjunction with GridAsia and Gelato ICE Forum Sharing of GridAsia sponsorship to reduce expense Grid Consortium Singapore would host (OGF Affiliate) Significant government support and sponsorship

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 18 Singapore (Biopolis) Business Model Revenue 300350400 Registration Revenue $160,300$187,000$215,000 Sponsorships Lanyards $3,000 Reception $20,000 Give Aways $3,000 Other Income $24,000 Total Revenue $210,300$237,000$265,000 Expenses Venue Expenses 28,620 34,000 Food & Beverage 57,80070,60080,400 Other Expenses 86,87088,37089,720 Total Expenses 173,290187,590204,120 Less OGF Staff Overhead 20,000 Estimated Surplus/Loss $17,010$29,410$40,880

© 2006 Open Grid Forum 19 Discussion Points (Pros/Cons) As an new OGF Affiliate and with strong government support, GF- Singapore is a strong host candidate Good track record with GridAsia events Willing to scale down GridAsia and use sponsorship for OGF24 Nice city for an event (safe, good airport) Direct flights for most EU carriers (LONG TRIP for US folks) Networking costs expensive ($40K) Biopolis is only facility that works financially Space limited for three events (OGF, GridAsia, Gelato) Requires 20 minute bus ride from hotel district but a few restaurants in area F1 Race (dates announced Aug’07) puts us into mid-October
