Investigations IN NUMBER, DATA, & SPACE This is an application based math resource. It encourages students to think creatively, develop critical thinking skills, and acquire a deeper understanding of the mathematical content. Mariposa is implementing a school-wide PBIS program What is PBIS? – Positive Behavior Intervention System – Focuses on positive rewards for good behavior – Creates a plan for “teaching” appropriate student behaviors – Creates a plan to address undesirable student behaviors through teacher and administrative interventions – Lesson plans build on Mariposa LifeSkills – Consistency throughout the school All staff expectations are the same, using the same language and the same series of rewards and consequences

BLAST Be Respectful Lead with Integrity Act Responsible Safety Matters Together We Achieve BLAST takes all the great programs and incentives Mariposa already has in place and ties them together! – School Store coupons (Blast Coupons) – Miss Manner certificates (Blast Coupons) – Principal’s Lunch – Lifeskills (all Lifeskills are imbedded within BLAST)

Homework & Communication Communication folder MUST be checked daily by teacher & parent(s) MUST be brought to school each day Remove papers daily Behavior calendar needs to be initialed by parent for yellow or red Homework Grade level weekly menu Weekly reading—minimum of 80 minutes/week (weekends included!) Child should be writing the title of their book each night. 4 Spelling practice activities weekly Additional practice will be assigned as needed Communication Emails Phone calls Notes home Weekly Buzz Newsletter Occasional Progress Reports

Specials 45 minutes once a week of each of the following: Monday Music - Mrs. Rooder Tuesday Library – Mrs. Berns Wednesday Computer Lab Thursday Art-Ms Albers Friday P.E. – Mrs. Allen Individual class schedules are available online

Ways You Can Support Your Child’s Learning Read with them at least 80 minutes every week Write, write, write… even if it’s only a few sentences. Skip count (2’s, 5’s, 10’s) Sort & count money Practice addition & subtraction facts (flash cards or www.dreambox.com)www.dreambox.com Telling time using an analog clock (not digital ) Go over the homework with your child Practice using good manners & modeling Lifeskills
