1 AS Travel and Tourism Unit 3 Travel Destinations Scrapbook Contents

2 Location  Maps at different scales (global, continental, national, regional and local) for each destination.  These can be sketched by hand, cut out of travel brochures or printed.  A variety is best.

3 Types of Location  Coastal resorts eg: Briton, Benidorm, Penang (Malaysia) and Acapulco.  Major towns and cities eg: New York, London, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro.  Purpose built destinations eg: Disney World, Port Aventura, Centre Parcs.  Areas of countryside eg: Alps, Lake District, Yellowstone National Park.

4 Attractions  Identify the key features of your two destinations.  Why do different types of tourists go to these destinations?

5 Attractions… for example…  Natural features eg: weather and climate.  Natural landscape and scenery.  Natural vegetation and wildlife.  Historical and cultural attractions.  Indoor and outdoor activities.  Types of accommodation.  Food, drink and entertainment.  Accessibility to travel and tourism gateways.

6 Recent Trends  How popular have your destinations been in the recent past?  Why was this?  How popular are the now and why?  Use visitor numbers as a guide for this.

7 Recent Trends  Economic considerations eg: cost of accommodation, transport, currency etc.  Social and political considerations eg: promotions, media, management, terrorism.  Environmental and geographical considerations eg: increasing accessibility, pollution, natural disasters etc.

8 Predictions  How popular will your destinations be in the future?  Are tourist numbers increasing or decreasing and why?  Suggest reasons for your answers.
