Linear Equations A linear equation is an equation whose solutions fall on a line in a coordinate plane. We will look at one characteristic of a linear equation today…the slope.

This can be viewed as a ratio with a unit rate. Let’s view slope from an experiment point of view. Let’s graph how high the water gets after 1 cup of water is added to a vase for a total of 5 cups.
