1. The Suffering of Jesus shows us God’s love John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus and Paul concurs!

2. God’s love on the cross frees us from our guilt 1st John 4:9-10 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. We are accountable to a holy and just God! We were born in rebellion and carried it out too! His love is self-sacrificial and wholly undeserving by us!

3. God’s love on the cross enables us to truly live 1st John 4:9-10 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Without Jesus’ suffering on the cross, we are still spiritually dead in our sins and empty ways of life, with out real hope, purpose, power, peace, and joy!

Have I received this gift of love from God? Am I living in dependence of this gift of love? Am I living according to the model of this gift of love?
