LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM What is LARF? The Latin American Regional Forum (“LARF”) was founded in 1994 and is part of the IBA’s Legal Practice Division (“LPD”). LARF’s role is to represent the interests of the IBA members in Latin America and to ensure that a Latin American perspective is addressed during relevant special sessions. LARF covers all countries in Latin America as well as Mexico, Puerto Rico and Spanish- speaking areas of the Caribbean.

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM Leadership LARF is headed by a Board of 13 members, selected considering, among others, geography and member’s commitment and participation in the IBA. LARF is advised by: a)The Advisory Board: formed by all former LARF’s Chairs and distinguished Latin American IBA members. b)The Young Lawyers Council: formed by a number of young lawyers from different Latam jurisdictions. c)The Liaisson Officers with the LPD and other IBA committees.

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM LARF celebrated its 20th anniversary during LARF’s biennial conference in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Punta del Este had more than 600 delegates, a record attendance. Post-conference survey showed record-numbers of satisfaction, with more than 90% considering the event of excellent or above-average quality. 2014 Conferences

(a joint panel with the Asia Pacific Regional Forum, the Corporate Responsibility Committee, the European Regional Forum, the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Committee and the Product Law and Advertising Committee); “Cross-border deals between Asian and Latin American companies-the untold stories by both in-house and outside counsel who lived through them” (standalone session).

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM 2014 Publications 2 reports prepared by LARF Task Forces were published and distributed by the IBA: “Appointment, Control and Removal of Judges”: distributed in Boston, and in the Biennial IBA Latin American Regional Forum Conference in Punta del Este, Uruguay. “Transmission of Letters Rogatory in the Region” which was presented at the Biennial LARF Conference in Punta del Este.

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM 2015 Publications Doing business in Latin America”; a practical and straight forward approach to the cultural and legal pitfalls of doing business in the region. –Release is expected for the M&A Conference in Panama in March 2015.

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM Scholarships LARF will continue awarding the Jack Batievsky and the Rogelio de la Guardia scholarships for a young lawyer to attend the Regional Conferences. –The winning papers are being uploaded in the IBA web page and published in the LARF Newsletter. The Alberto Lasheras-Shine scholarship will be awarded jointly with the M&A Committee for the regional M&A Conference to be held in Panama in March 2015. Scholarships include free registration, contribution to travel and accommodation costs, tickets to social events. Please encourage young associates of your law firms to submit articles!!

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM Future Actions LARF has been working hard not only in attracting more members, but also, in putting together the best possible conferences in order to attract not only its members but also extra- region delegates interested in Latin America. More active participation in the legal life of the jurisdictions it covers is also fostered by participating and getting involved in local activities.

LATIN AMERICAN REGIONAL FORUM Future Actions A more direct relationship with substantive committees. Continue to identify substantive committees where there are no Latin American members and encourage regional IBA attendees to participate actively. Continue to liaise with Latin American members in substantive committees in order to identify common topics and try to engage and collaborate in common activities.
