Honors American History from 1870 to the Present This Honors United States History from 1870 to the Present class is designed to study the ideals, political institutions, cultural developments and people responsible for the creation of America. This course is presented in a broad fashion over 14 weeks and 6 modules to allow time for all significant events and details to stimulate interest and discussion in an online format. As such, students will adapt their approaches to study so they are taking notes digitally and integrating multiple forms of communications-information technology into all coursework. Mastery Objective Number One Students will demonstrate their understanding of these relationships by responding to a discussion topic that requires them to use higher order thinking skills while supporting their responses with primary and secondary source materials Upon completing the course students will have identified the central themes of the text and summarized key supporting details Karen Trimmer Storyboard DETT 607 November 2013

Mastery Objective Number Two Students will meet a level of participation to demonstrate a high (100-80), average (80-70) or low (below 70) level of knowledge, which will be recorded in a conference rubric Students will demonstrate their understanding of historical relationships by responding to a discussion topic that requires them participate actively and appropriately Upon completion of this course students will have evaluated American history with a global perspective, determined explicit textual references, and supported conclusions about the cyclical patterns that emerge in the linear historical narrative Karen Trimmer Storyboard DETT 607 November 2013

Master Objective Number Four students will demonstrate their understanding of key terms and vocabulary by determining the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in primary and secondary sources, including vocabulary that describe political, social or economic aspects of history Students will demonstrate their understanding of these relationships by responding to a discussion topic that requires them use higher order thinking skills and consider multiple points-of view while supporting their responses with by citing specific textual evidence to support analysis of primary and secondary sources. Inform learners of objective, via embedded screencast, that John F. Kennedy’s speech at the Berlin Wall in 1963 was given while the U.S. faced similar aggression as in modern day North Korea. History works in cycles. 3. Stimulate recall, via embedded screencast, to see if students remember how the US or any nation responded When faced with aggression.
