Cheurprakobkit, with all) Academic credit for police and correctional academy courses: The Criminal Justice Training Assessment (CJTA) approach For the past few years, a federal grant sponsored by the Department of Justice has allowed teams consisting of faculty (from two-year and four-year colleges and universities) and practitioners to assess the training curricula of various United States law enforcement and correctional agencies. Although conventional wisdom in academia is against viewing training courses as credible, the assessment teams after carefully evaluating many such curricula, did make credit recommendation for deserving ones. The CJTA project helped connect the academic world of criminal justice with the world of practitioners and generated rich “inside” information on various agency training programs and academy courses.
