3  More than just one intelligence: 1. Verbal, or linguistic 2.Logical-mathematical 3.Visual-spatial 4. Bodily-Kinesthetic (Athletes) 5. Musical-rhythmic 6. Interpersonal (sensitivity to others feelings) 7. Intrapersonal (insight into one’s own feelings) 8. Naturalist (understanding of natural behavior psychology) 9. Existential (understanding of Philosophy)

4  Intelligence is broke down into 3 factors ◦ 1. Analytical intelligence  Problem solving skills ◦ 2. Creative intelligence  Ability to deal with new situations or sudden changes ◦ 3. Practical intelligence  Common Sense  Ability to accomplish everyday tasks

5  Why are smart people not always successful?  5 factors that are involved in success or on the job ◦ 1. Self-Awareness (recognize how we feel) ◦ 2.Mood Management (control our feelings) ◦ 3.Self Motivation ◦ 4.Impulse control (self-control) ◦ 5. People Skills (understand and communicate)

6  Stanford-Binet Scale- Intelligence Test ◦ Produces a score called mental age. Different from chronological age. Represents intellectual level at which child is functioning. ◦ Today this is called Intelligence Quotient (IQ) ◦ IQ = mental age/ chronological age x 100

7  More commonly used today to produce IQ scores  Serious of test that produce 3 scores that are then compared with answers of others in same age group.  Wechsler= verbal and non verbal test  Stanford-Binet= Verbal

8  Reliability refers to the consistency of a test ◦ Gives you similar results every time ◦ ex. Measuring tape  Validity ◦ Measures what it is suppose to measure  Problems with tests ◦ Cultural Bias,Motivation,

9  Genetic Factors ◦ Heritability (40%-60%)  Environmental Influences ◦ Home/Parenting
