CSE 1400522 Wireless and Adhoc networks Instructor: Ayman Alharbi Computer Engineering Dept. (Head of dept. ) Why ?

Course Information Instructor: Dr.Ayman Alharbi Email: aarharbi@uqu.edu.sa aarharbi@uqu.edu.sa Time: Thur 10 pm – 11:45 pm Office hour : Sat 12-2 pm or Thur 10-11 am

Introduction of the instructor and TA PhD in Computer Science and Engineering Wireless Underwater Sensors Networks (WUSN)

Course Information Prerequisite: Basics of computer networks. Course textbook (not required): Protocols and Architectures for Wireless Sensor Networks... By Holger Karl, Andreas Willig Additional class notes and copied materials will be given Reading material links will be provided

Course Information Objectives: Introduce students knowledge about the basic concepts of ad hoc and sensor networking. Challenges such as mobility, power consumption and other issues will be addressed. Explain adhoc routing protocols such as proactive, reactive, and hybrid protocols. NS3 network simulator PROJECTS. We might read and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of research papers on a variety of important topics and identify open research questions.

Grading 15% -- Midterm 10% -- Presentation 15% -- Ns3 Assignments 30% -- Final exam 30% -- Group project

Course Information Requirements: Presentations : Each student will be asked to select and present an interesting topic. The presentation should be 30-45 minutes long. Discussion : Students will be required to read the assigned chapter before each class and actively participate in discussions in class. Term project : Your project can be about extending a technique we studied in class, or empirically analyzing it. Comparisons between two approaches are also welcome.

Term Project Possible project topics will be provided as links, students are encouraged to propose their own Teams of 1-2 students can be created Each team needs to give two presentations: a proposal presentation (10-15min); a final presentation in the last week (15-20min) Each team needs to submit a project report Definition of the problem Approaches used to solve the problem Computational results Conclusion (success or failure)
