3 LC-PCC PS definition LC-PCC PS for 27.1--Related manifestation is a core element for LC for reproductions.27.1 The word “reproduction” is being used in its broadest sense to include all resources formerly identified as reproductions, republications, reprints, reissues, facsimiles, etc., that still represent equivalent content between an original resource and a reproduction of that original. Revised editions represent different expressions and are not treated as reproductions. 3

16 PCC Task Group On RDA Microform Reproductions Recommendations from the PCC Standards Committee (SCS) – While RDA is optimized for a post-MARC environment, we remain in a MARC environment for the time being – The overwhelming majority of existing bibliographic records for microform reproductions contain bibliographic descriptions based on the original publication rather than the reproduction. – Analysis in OCLC WorldCat shows that fewer and fewer new bibliographic records are being created for microform reproductions. – Given a choice between bibliographic details relating to the original publication and those relating to the reproduction, most systems are designed to allow users to refine their search arguments using just one approach, and the status quo seems preferable given legacy records and practices. – Because AACR2 LCRI 11 allows the bibliographic descriptions of microform reproductions based on existing bibliographic records, bibliographic records for microform reproductions can currently be created using staff with less cataloging expertise than would be needed to apply the corresponding RDA instructions 16

17 PCC Task Group On RDA Microform Reproductions PCC Coding – Records for microform reproductions are coded as “pcc” in the MARC 042 field and “rda” in the MARC 040 field if they adhere to RDA instructions specifying a treatment for “Facsimiles and Reproductions” (2.8.1.3), with the exceptions. Authorized Access Points (AAP) – All authorized access points are supported by NACO authority records: Newly-created authority records must be RDA; authority records which already exist need not be upgraded to RDA unless they have the MARC 667 field indicating further work is needed. Content, Media and Carrier information – Regardless of the cataloging rules of the source record, use MARC fields 336-338. Do not use MARC 245 subfield “h” 17

18 PCC Task Group On RDA Microform Reproductions MARC 533 field for related reproduction data – Format of reproduction – Dates of publication and/or sequential designation of issues reproduced (for serials) – Place and name of the agency responsible for the reproduction – Date of the reproduction – Physical description of the reproduction if different from the original – Series statement of the reproduction (if applicable) – Notes relating to the reproduction (if applicable) Related manifestations – In the MARC 776 field subfield “i” use either Reproduction of (manifestation): or $i Print version: It is CONSER practice to use the latter in the 776 field. Comprehensive records – If the cataloger has a resource consisting of multiple monographs or serials title on the same reels(s)/fiche, they may catalog the comprehensive record as a new record using RDA. Within the reel(s)/fiche, individual analytics may be cataloged using the “status quo” procedures outlined above 18
