2 Microorganisms  Microorganisms are living things that are too small to see without a microscope.  Most microorganisms are single-celled  Bacteria, some yeasts, some algae, some molds/fungi, and protists are examples of microorganisms.

3 FOOD!!!!!  Bacteria: Soft cheeses, sour cream, buttermilk, yogurt, vinegar/pickled foods, honey  Fungi: blue cheese( penicillin), mushrooms  Algae: ice cream, salad dressing, food coloring  Yeast: bread and other dough things

4 Beneficial  Baking yeast- helps bread rise  Bacteria in milk- makes milk curdle to give buttermilk, cheese, and yogurt  Bacteria in intestines- help in digestion  Mold for medicine  Bacteria in soil

5 Harmful  Bacteria in spoiled food  Bacteria in drinking water  Bacteria in sewage  Bacteria can also cause pneumonia, tetanus, and typhoid fever  All of these make people and animals sick  Fungi like ringworm, athlete’s foot
