2 Information Contained on the Report Card Letter Grades for: Reading, Writing, Spelling, Math, Social Living, PE/Health Letter Grades represent an average of a student’s performance over the course of the nine weeks on products such as: Assessments (primarily summative), compositions, reports (written/ oral), projects, and/or experiments. Letter Grades are assigned using percentages of correct responses. The following scale is used: 100-93A74 – 67 D 92 – 85B66 – 0F 84 – 75 C A minimum of seven grades (nine in 5 th grade) are needed each quarter for each subject to determine a quarterly letter grade.

3 The addendum breaks down the subject of Reading and Writing. Reading is broken down in Phonics and Sight Words. Writing is broken down into Content and Mechanics Phonics, Sight Words, Content, and Mechanics will be given a rating based on the student’s progress. The rating is as follows: Information contained on the Addendum

4 First Grade Phonics Students will receive a rating each quarter. This rating will be based on their performance on the standard. The standard is what is expected of the student by the end of the school year.

5 How do they determine a rating? First grade teachers use criteria to make the determination as they assess students throughout the quarter.

6 What is a digraph, vowel team, and inflectional ending? The following are examples from the teacher’s individual student recording sheet.

7 First Grade Sight Words Students in First Grade are presented with 210 sight words over the course of the school year. Quarterly requirements are as follows: Generally, between 5-7 words will be introduced each week, giving students a total of 45-50 per quarter. Students are only required to identify 39 words in the first quarter to demonstrate mastery. Each quarter is cummulative.

8 First Grade Writing - Content First grade students will write three types of compositions; Informative/Explanatory Narrative Opinion

9 First Grade Writing - Mechanics Mechanics is broken down into categories and addresses; Handwriting Sentence Formation Usage

10 First Grade Writing - Mechanics Mechanics is broken into categories and addresses; Capitalization Punctuation Spelling

11 Additional Information Benchmark Assessment results. In first grade, students will take an ELA Benchmark Assessment three times per year. The administration of the pretest in October, a midyear assessment in January, and an end of the year assessment in May. The same test is administered all three times.

12 DIBELS Next results DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is an assessment administered to students three times a year to measure growth in the five areas of Reading (phonemic aware- ness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension).

13 The Standards The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) identify standards in both Math and English Language Arts. They are broken down into the following categories for both subjects: English Language ArtsMath Reading LiteratureOperations and Algebraic Thinking Reading Information TextsNumbers and Operations in Base Ten Reading Foundational SkillsMeasurement and Data WritingGeometry Speaking and ListeningNumber and Operations – Fraction Language(3-5) Counting and Cardinality (K only)
