2 ND SIX WEEKS BELL WORK AND NOTES

MONDAY OCT. 5TH  Planner: Force Inquiry activity, No Homework  Bell work: Explain what a force is and 2 examples of how it can affect an object.  Progress monitoring sheet, needs to be glued in on page 26, on the LEFT side

OCT. 5TH  Today I am: Learning how force can affect objects.  So that I can predict the motion of an object when 2 forces are applied.  I’ll know I’ve got it when I can draw and explain my own force example.

PRE-AP  Opening: What is a force? How are objects affected by force?

WORK TIME OCT. 5TH  Pre-Ap you will complete the force simulation found on the Moodle page. Making sure to follow your lab sheet!  On-Level you will be working at the lab stations answering Will the pumpkin move?

WILL IT MOVE? 10 N

 Draw your own example and label at the bottom.  Will your object move and if so which direction.  Explain if it is balanced or unbalanced and how you know  What is the Net force applied? How did you find that  What unit do we measure force in?

TUESDAY OCT. 6TH  Planner: Balanced/Unbalanced force Foldable Bell work: If the car was traveling to the right and a wind started to blow, describe what would happened to the car. Would it’s speed change? 4N 6N

TUESDAY OCT. 6TH  Today I am learning about balanced an unbalanced forces, So that I can accurately distinguish between the two. I'll know that I've got it when I can draw an example for each.

FOLDABLE NOTES PG. 29  Balanced  Unbalanced  Net Force  Define, Picture example, written example

CLOSING OCT. 5TH  Share your own example with a partner: Partners need to comment as to whether or not 1. Does the example correctly demonstrate how a force could affect an object? 2. Did they find the correct net force? 3. How could they have explained their reasoning any better?

WEDNESDAY OCT. 7TH  Planner: Newton Inquiry lab  Bell work: Quiz

WEDNESDAY OCT. 7TH  Today I am performing an inquiry lab, So that I can discover what inertia, mass and force have in common. I'll know that I've got when I can relate my lab observations to Newton's Laws.

 Force  Inertia  First law of motion  2 nd law of motion  3 rd law of motion VOCABULARY WORDS FOR FRIDAY’S QUIZ  Momentum  Mass  Unbalanced forces  Net force  Balanced force

WEDNESDAY OCT. 7TH  Title page32 Newton’s Inquiry Lab  Divide the whole page into 6 even boxes.  Perform each task and record observations in journal.  Rotate on the bell, if you do not finish you must rotate anyway.

THURSDAY OCT. 8TH  Planner: Seatbelt article annotation  Bell work: Answer #1,2 and 3 on your progress monitoring sheet

TARGET  Today I am analyzing Newton’s 3 Laws of motion in sports and vehicle restraints, So that I can identify each law correctly when demonstrated in different situations. I’ll know that I’ve got it when I can justify my selection of Newton’s laws for each activity

GETTING STARTED  Sports Video clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAm6LO UnJ80 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAm6LO UnJ80 How do you think this video relates to your exploration activities from the prior day? You will turn to your partner and indicate some examples of activities you have experienced in your life that most likely display one or more of these laws..

TIME TO WORK SEAT BELTS AND NEWTON’S LAW  Peer Reading with a shoulder partner. Each person read 1 paragraph at a time, annotate as you go: (write on the article) Circle words you do not know Underline key ideas/concepts per paragraph Reflection questions/notes Pg. 33 journal  1. Create your own meanings/definition for each Law.  2. How does this article relate to any of our lab stations from Wednesday?  3. Which law do you think plays the biggest part when you have a car accident? Explain your answer.

WHAT DID WE FIND? 1 st law: 2 nd law: 3 rd law:

FRIDAY OCT. 9TH  Planner: Wrap up Inquiry labs  Bell work: take your post it notes and with your group decide which law best apply’s to each station.

AGENDA  1. Article annotated  2. Reflection questions answered  3. Newton’s Laws Anchor Chart

THAT’S A WRAP Now that you have a better understanding of each of Newton’s laws it is your turn to decide. Using Post-it Notes write (#1, #2 #3) to reflect which law you feel is being demonstrated for each station. Be ready to justify your answer
