The aims of the Workshop: You will gain a clear understanding of the BIG Write process. You will have the opportunity to experience BIG Writing with your children.

Why do the BIG Write? Whole school initiative to raise standards in Writing. Equip children with both the knowledge of how to improve their writing and the tools they need to achieve this.

What is BIG Writing? 7 year old: “You get to use pen, Mr Hunt puts music on and you do it in silence.” 9 year old: “You write about something and you try to improve it. Then you talk to others about it and you set yourself targets for next time.” Why do you do BIG Writing? 7 year old: “It shows you have been listening to your teacher and you remember how to do it on your own, like with writing instructions.” 9 year old: “To improve your writing.”

“If a child can’t say it, a child can’t write it” This homework involves discussion only, but is just as valuable as any written homework. Big Talk homework is a chance to: help your child think through and discuss initial ideas in order to develop the thought process engage your child in purposeful conversation show that it is fine for different people to have differing views or opinions develop your child ’ s vocabulary through the use of ambitious (WOW) words stimulate your child ’ s creativity in preparation for writing The BIG TALK The BIG TALK
