What is IAESTE? The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience An association that runs a traineeship programme Provides students in higher education with study related training possibilities Offers employers well-qualified and motivated trainees

History and structure Founded in 1948 by 10 European countries, including Finland Today members in over 80 countries in all continents Administrated at universities, governmental bodies, private companies or is a student run activity In Finland administrated at CIMO (Centre for International Mobility) – cooperation with higher education institutes

IAESTE in autumn Job raising In Finland IAESTE office and IAESTE-coordinators at universities 2010 Finland has in total 72 offers out of which 59 at universities

Examples of trainee placements in Finland Urban planning tasks at city planning departments of the cities of Oulu, Helsinki and Kuopio Market research and production work at Miilukangas Machine Workshop Assisting in research projects and teaching at the labs of the Technical Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences

IAESTE for employers An easy way of getting highly motivated hand-picked trainees A possibility to get a trainee from a specific country A good way to recruit future PhD candidates or take a first step in expanding to a new country Recruiting process, practicalities and free time programme (in bigger cities) organized by IAESTE

IAESTE in January Exchange conference Finland exchanges offers with about 40 countries In total about 4000 – 5000 offers are exchanged every year

IAESTE during spring Matching students and offers In Finland an online application period for students in February Only one candidate per offer is selected Documents are sent to the employer for final approval

IAESTE in summer Most of the training periods take place in the summer Finnish trainees are normally on a traineeship in the summer for 3 months IAESTE trainees are provided with accommodation and summer program

Examples of foreign employers McCann Architect, Ireland Coffey Geotechnics, UK PageUp, Czech Republic (software engineering) University laboratories and research centres e.g. in Australia, Germany, Portugal …
