2 EVERY SENTENCE HAS 2 BASIC PARTS…  Subject: whom or what sentence is about  Predicate : what the subject is or does or what happens to the subject (the verb )  EX: Huge cresting waves pound the sailboat. ^Subject ^Predicate

3 To make it complete…. A SENTENCE NEEDS BOTH PARTS!!!

4 Complete & Simple Subjects… Complete Subject Includes the simple subject & all the words that modify it ASK: Who/what does something and what words tell more about it? Disaster movies fascinate nearly everyone. Simple SubjectSpecifically whom or what the sentence is about ASK: Who/what does something? Disaster movies fascinate everyone.

5 Practice… Directions: Read each sentence below. Write down the complete subject first. Then, underline the simple subject. 1. Hurricane winds blew the car into the house. 2. The fragile tree snapped in the wind. 3. Crazy students ran from the school.
