6 types of participation many existing disciplinary-based participation activities … internships and work-integrated-learning: sociology, media, cultural studies, public relations, engineering, museum studies, business, health, etc. professional experience & practicums: education, early childhood field trips with a partnership component: human geography service learning by volunteering: psychology capstone community reference panels: new law unit

7 psychology: develop a youth strategy for a local council on the north shore business: do an internship with a leading company, not-for-profit organisation, or government agency public relations: develop communications strategies for an organisation providing training, jobs and shelter to homeless young men in the western suburbs health: help establish and evaluate a community garden project in a local primary school law: work in a team to generate law reform proposals to address real world problems of governance, access to justice, social inclusion etc sociology: complete a social research project with a local council what sort of things can I do?

14 staged implementation of PACE over the next 4 years from 2012: participation unit a core requirement in some 31 degree programs (about half of the total number of degrees), and 8 majors/streams a range of other participation activities open to all students via Faculty and Departmental Participation units (electives) ... currently a total of 29 participation units accredited by ASQC/Senate roll-out of Participation at macquarie
