Bullying Happens… Whenever someone uses his or her power unfairly and repeatedly to hurt someone. Bully Behavior Hurting someone’s body or things Hurting someone’s feelings Hurting someone’s friendships

What is Cyber-Bullying? Definition: being cruel to others by sending or posting harmful messages using the internet or other social media

Types of Cyber-Bullying Flaming: fighting online with angry messages or inappropriate language Harassment: sending rude/inappropriate messages over and over Denigration: “Dissing” online, gossip/rumors Impersonation: pretending to be someone and then causing problems for that person Outing or Tricking: sharing secrets, embarrassing a person

How to Stay Safe 1. Keep your personal information safe. 2. Use good netiquette 3. Take a break if you are angry.

What to DO if it happens to YOU Stop communicating with the other person Get adult helper With adult helper: log off, block, report

Scenario #1 A student in your class who you have seen bully other kids wants your phone number and email

Scenario #2 You are chatting online and a person you’ve never met asks to meet you at the park.

Scenario #3 A bully from the bus is calling you names and using inappropriate words in chat room.

Scenario #4 A neighbor who often calls you names or is mean to you when you play has been posting rude comments to you over and over.

Scenario #5 Mean 5 th grade girls spread rumors about how you don’t have any friends and make fun of the clothes you wear.

Scenario #6 A cousin who knows your username and password logs in as you and posts mean messages to all the people on your friends list.

Scenario #7 Boys from your soccer team post a photo shopped picture of you along with an embarrassing secret you told them.
