The Goal: To improve cooperation between our school and parents; and inolve parents in the school’s daily activities.

Pre-school teachers and their assistants of course do most of the work implementing the project, nevertheless parent support has been essential. Parent support and pride in our activities is a motivation for the school and children to continue the started work.

How do parents get information about activities? Most of the chilren bring the knowledge home and parents get involved in finiding the videos or other tools that teachers have used. Children ask parents to sing with them, count rhymes etc. Each group has a notice board where parents can find information about what teachers are planning in the ongoing month – which words and phrases will be learned, materials used. The information also inclues links to websites used and materials that can be accessed by parents as well. This easese parental involvement in jointly learning Englinsh with their chilren.

Parent days During parent days teachers organize in class activivities with oparents, so that parents can learn something new together with their children. What we did? Various professions were introduced to children where they also coul learn some key words in English. In one of the groups a mother lead one play hour in English. We played various games, learned rhymes in English. Together we learned English alphabeth. Watched videos and used internet resources. Listened to stories in English, trying to understan what was being told. Together spent family time, playing games and songs that chilren already knew by which where new to parents.

Theatre days In March we have our Theatre month and we stage various plays. It is the second year as we add English plays to the repertuare. Many parents actively get involved to help children learn their texts in English.
