3© 2006 Autodesk What is 3D? 3D means three- dimensional, i.e. something that has width, height and depth (length). Our physical environment is three-dimensional and we move around in 3D every day.

4© 2006 Autodesk 3D Technology Is used in many applications like ‘Tele vision, Cell Phones, theatres, etc…..

5© 2006 Autodesk In 1838, Sir Charles Wheatstone first described the process of stereopsis: the process by which humans perceive three dimensions from two highly similar, overlaid images. Or, the process by which Avatar looks like a mind-blowingly immersive alien landscape instead of a bunch of brightly colored fuzz.

6© 2006 Autodesk 3D technology has come a long way since Wheatstone developed his stereoscope, then used to view static images and eventually pictures. Now we get to wear Wayfarer knock-offs and enjoy 3D films, television shows and video games.

7© 2006 Autodesk A 3D television (3DTV) is a television set that employs techniques of 3D presentation, such as stereoscopic capture, multi- view capture, or 2D-plus-depth, and a 3D display – a special viewing device to project a television program into a realistic three-dimensional field. 3DTVs have been introduced in the markets by Panasonic, LG and Samsung.television set3Dstereoscopicmulti- view2D-plus-depth3D displaytelevision 3D TV and THEATRES

8© 2006 Autodesk 3D will soon be a part of life in our living rooms. Over 20 per cent of all movies are expected to be in 3D by 2014.

9© 2006 Autodesk 3-D films have existed in some form since the 1950s, but had been largely relegated to a niche in the motion picture industry because of the costly hardware and processes required to produce and display a 3-D film, and the lack of a standardized format for all segments of the entertainment business

10© 2006 Autodesk 3-D films were prominently featured in the 1950s in American cinema, and later experienced a worldwide resurgence in the 1980s and '90s driven by IMAX high-end theatres and Disney themed-venues. 3-D films became more and more successful throughout the 2000s, culminating in the unprecedented success of 3-D presentations of Avatar in December 2009 and January 2010.IMAXDisneyAvatar
