CLASSROOM PROCEDURES MISS. PETERSON’S CLASSROOM SAWTOOTH MIDDLE SCHOOL MERIDIAN, IDAHO

WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? A PROCEDURE IS THE WAY THAT WE DO THINGS. TO DO THINGS RIGHT, WE HAVE TO FOLLOW SOME SIMPLE PROCEDURES. FOR EXAMPLE: TO OPEN YOUR LOCKER, YOU HAVE TO SELECT YOUR COMBINATION AS DIRECTED BY THE LOCK MANUFACTURER. TO PLACE A CALL ON YOUR PHONE, YOU NEED TO ENTER THE NUMBER IN THE RIGHT ORDER.

BEFORE CLASS/BEFORE ENTERING THE ROOM MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL NECESSARY MATERIALS FOR THE CLASS BEFORE ENTERING THE ROOM. GO TO THE RESTROOM/GET A DRINK BEFORE ENTERING THE ROOM.

ENTERING THE ROOM ENTER THE CLASSROOM QUIETLY. IF YOU NEED PAPER AND/OR A PEN OR PENCIL GET THEM FROM THE DESIGNATED LOCATION BEFORE THE BELL RINGS. GO TO YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT AND GET PEN/PAPER READY FOR WHEN THE BELL RINGS.

RIGHT WHEN THE BELL RINGS IMMEDIATELY START THE BELLWORK THAT WILL BE WRITTEN ON THE BOARD OR WILL BE ON YOUR DESK. DO THE BELLWORK. WHEN YOU FINISH, BEGIN THE NEXT ASSIGNMENT OR SILENTLY READ.

DURING INSTRUCTION LISTEN TO THE TEACHER WITH FULL ATTENTION – SAVE CONVERSATIONS FOR ANOTHER TIME. HAVE EYES ON ME DURING INSTRUCTION, YOU WILL BE GIVEN TIME FOR TAKING NOTES.

DURING INSTRUCTION ASK A QUESTION BY RAISING YOUR HAND. ASK QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT. OTHER QUESTIONS WHICH ARE NOT RELATED TO THE SUBJECT CAN BE ASKED AFTER INSTRUCTION. AFTER INSTRUCTION, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT. IF NOT, ASK QUESTIONS BY MENTIONING WHICH PART YOU DIDN’T UNDERSTAND.

LEAVING CLASS… IN ORDER TO GET APPROVAL TO LEAVE CLASS YOU MUST USE YOUR AGENDA HALL PASS BY GETTING IT SIGNED BY ME. 7 TH PERIOD CLASS MAY EAT SNACKS (WITHOUT MESS/DISTRACTION) AND USE THE RESTROOM (BEWARE THE FREQUENT FLYERS) ALL OTHER CLASSES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING FOOD/DRINKS TO CLASS (EXCEPT WATER) USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE SCHOOL OR DURING BREAK OR LUNCH

WHILE YOU ARE WORKING MAKE SURE YOU READ OR LISTEN TO THE DIRECTIONS ABOUT YOUR WORK AND UNDERSTAND THEM. IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND, GET HELP FROM THE STUDENT SITTING NEXT TO YOU (YOUR ELBOW PARTNER). IF THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND EITHER, ASK THE TEACHER TO EXPLAIN IT. IF YOU ARE ASKED TO HELP A CLASSMATE OR YOUR TEACHER, BE POLITE, BE KIND AND OFFER YOUR BEST.

WHILE YOU ARE WORKING TALKING TO EACH OTHER ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT SHOULD BE NO LOUDER THAN A WHISPER. THE PERSON SITTING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM SHOULD NOT BE INTERRUPTED BY YOUR TALKING. RESPECT EACH OTHER AND BE FRIENDLY. PLEASE DO NOT EXCESSIVELY TALK TO NEIGHBORS BECAUSE IT WILL DISTURB OTHERS AROUND YOU. USE YOUR TIME WISELY. PUT FORTH YOUR BEST EFFORT TO FINISH YOUR WORK ON TIME. RESPECT DUE DATES.

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK YOU SHOULD HAVE 2 COMPOSITION BOOKS OR NOTEBOOKS WHICH WILL BE USED ONLY FOR THIS ENGLISH CLASS. USE PEN OR PENCIL TO WRITE IN YOUR JOURNAL. USING TWO DIFFERENT COLORS, ONE FOR THE TITLE AND A DIFFERENT ONE FOR THE BODY OF THE TEXT WILL MAKE YOUR JOURNAL LOOK NEATER AND MORE ORGANIZED. WE WILL SET UP THE INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS TOGETHER IN CLASS.

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK KEEP YOUR INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK CLEAN AND ORGANIZED. YOUR INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK WILL BE COLLECTED AND CHECKED FROM TIME TO TIME. TURN IT IN ON TIME WHEN YOU ARE ASKED. TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK. DO NOT LOSE IT. YOU MAY TAKE IT HOME OR KEEP IT HERE IN CLASS IN ITS DESIGNATED LOCATION. (IF YOU KEEP IT HERE IN CLASS YOU MUST GET IT READY TO USE BEFORE THE BELL RINGS EACH DAY.)

IF THE TEACHER RAISES HER HAND OR RINGS THE BELL STOP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AT THAT MOMENT. PEN/PENCIL DOWN. FACE THE TEACHER AND WAIT SILENTLY. NOTIFY ANY CLASSMATES WHO HAVEN’T NOTICED THAT THE TEACHER HAS RAISED HER HAND. NO TALKING OR WHISPERING. ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE TEACHER.

TURNING IN ASSIGNMENTS COMPLETE THE GIVEN ASSIGNMENT WHEN DONE, PUT IT ON THE RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE DESK OF THE STUDENT SITTING TO YOUR LEFT – DO NOT HAND IT TO THE PERSON! THE STUDENT WILL TAKE ASSIGNMENTS FROM THE RIGHT CORNER OF THEIR DESK AND PUT IT WITH THEIR WORK AND PUT IT ON THE DESK TO THEIR LEFT, AND SO ON…. THE PERSON AT THE END OF THE ROW WILL GET UP AND TURN THEM IN TO THE APPROPRIATE DESIGNATED BASKET.

AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH AN ASSIGNMENT CHECK YOUR WORK AND THE DIRECTIONS ONE MORE TIME TO SEE IF YOU MISSED ANYTHING OR DID SOMETHING INCORRECTLY THAT CAN BE FIXED. IF THE ASSIGNMENT IS TO BE TURNED IN, FOLLOW THE HAND-IN PROCEDURE FROM THE PREVIOUS SLIDE. START THE NEXT ASSIGNMENT OR START YOUR READING SESSION. (READ YOUR BOOK, MAGAZINE, ETC.)

BRING A BOOK TO CLASS EVERYDAY! BRING A BOOK TO SILENTLY READ TO EVERY CORE CLASS YOU HAVE. YOU MAY BRING ONE FROM HOME OR CHECK ONE OUT FROM THE LIBRARY. WE WILL BE GOING TO THE LIBRARY EVERY OTHER WEEK IN ORDER FOR YOU TO CHECK OUT AND RETURN BOOKS. IF YOU ARE GETTING CLOSE TO FINISHING UP THE BOOK YOU ARE CURRENTLY READING BE SURE TO BRING A SECOND BOOK WITH YOU TO START. STUDENTS WILL BE READING WHEN CLASSWORK IS FINISHED, UPON FINISHING ASSESSMENTS, AND DURING SCHEDULED SILENT READING TIMES IN LANGUAGE ARTS AND ADVISORY CLASSES.

DISMISSAL AT THE END OF CLASS WAIT FOR MISS. PETERSON TO DISMISS YOU BY SAYING SOMETHING LIKE: “HAVE A GOOD DAY.” THE RING OF THE BELL DOES NOT DISMISS YOU. AFTER YOU GET PERMISSION TO LEAVE, THEN YOU MAY PUT YOUR NOTEBOOK AND OTHER ITEMS AWAY AND CLEAN YOUR AREA AND PUT TRASH IN THE TRASH CAN ON YOUR WAY OUT.

WHEN YOU ARE TARDY SIGN THE TARDY LOG BOOK. QUIETLY GO TO YOUR SEAT. DO NOT INTERRUPT INSTRUCTION. (IF YOU ENTER THE ROOM AFTER THE BELL RINGS.) YOU WILL NOT BE EXCUSED FROM ANY WORK YOU MISSED. GET THE ASSIGNMENT FROM YOUR ELBOW PARTNER AND DO IT AT HOME IF NO TIME TO FINISH DURING CLASS.
