2 Welcome to Ms. Hines and Ms. Dalton’s Classroom (5 th period) Enter quietly Have a seat where ever you feel comfortable. Place the following items on your desk: –ELA binder –Pen or pencil –GMS agenda Place your backpacks under your desk. Remain quiet and prepare your minds for learning.

Place the following items on your desk: –ELA binder –Pen or pencil –GMS agenda Remain quiet and prepare your minds for learning.

4 Journal Entry (10 minutes) Date: 1-8-2013 Title: My reflections on last semester Take a moment to reflect (look back) on last semester. –What did you do well? What worked? –What did you not do well on? What did not work? –What would you change this semester? Suggestions for our class.

5 Classroom Rules and Procedures The following discipline procedures will be used in OUR class!

6 Classroom Rules 1. Students are to bring all required materials and supplies to class each day. 2. Students are to be in their seats, quiet, and ready to work within the first two minutes of class. 3. Students are to follow directions the first time they are given. 4. Students are to raise their hand to be recognized before speaking. 5. Students are to remain in their seats unless given permission to get up. 6. Students should not eat, drink, or chew gum in the classroom. Are there any other suggestions for rules?

7 Disciplinary Procedures 1 st offence- Warning 2 nd offence- Parent Notification 3 rd offence- Detention 4 th offence- Referral to the office This procedure may be altered according to the severity of the offence!!!!

10 Being Prepared and Writing Utensils Being Prepared Bring required materials each day. (3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, writers notebook, pen and a pencil Writing Utensils a.Students may use a pencil or a pen (blue or black ink) b. Blue or black ink should be used for formal writing assignments. c. Typed or computer generated work will be accepted with prior approval of the teacher.

11 Entering and Exiting Class Entering Class A.After entering the room, students may not leave without permission. B.Students may not leave books and materials outside the classroom for any reason C.Upon entering, students should go to their assigned seats and prepare for class. D.Always look at the board and do exactly what it says to do. Exiting Class A.The teacher will dismiss the class not the clock. B.Do not pack books to exit class until instructed to do so by the teacher. C.Students will be dismissed by groups. Make sure your group is ready. D.Students are responsible for cleaning the area around their desks before leaving the room.

12 Maintaining Your ELA Notebook a.All materials must be dated, titled, and in the right order. b.Notebooks will be checked this semester during teacher and student conferences. This grade will count as a grade. c.Never tear a page out of your notebook.

13 Papers Paper usage Writing on the back of homework and class work is permitted and encouraged. Do not write on final drafts. Do not write on the bottom line of the paper, go to next page. Heading Papers First and last name ELA 7-___ (write your period) Hines/Dalton ***See the classroom sign*** Passing in papers Each student should place their paper on top of the paper beside you and pass them across the row. The student on the last seat should collect all papers place them on the teachers desk.

14 Restroom and Water Restroom a.Students should use the restroom during 3 rd period lunch and 6 th period. b.After entering the classroom, students will not be allowed to leave unless it is an EXTREME Emergency. Water a.Students should get water before class during class change b.Bring a water bottle.

15 Pencil Sharpening and Trash Pencil Sharpening a.Each group has a pencil sharpener. If it is full, empty it. Trash a.Trash will be thrown away when your are dismissed from class. Keep it at your desk until you are dismissed. b.Pick up all paper around your desk before leaving the room.

16 Walking In The Hallways As A Class A.Students are expected to walk in a straight line when in the hallway. B.There will be NO TALKING in line. Other students are still in class. C.All class rules apply in the hallway.

17 Homework for 1/8/2013 What are your New Year Resolutions? Create a list of short term and long term goals. Bring the list to class tomorrow.
