“Je suis” means “I am”. When you hear the question “tu es” (you are) in French, you answer with “je suis”. We need to learn how to conjugate the verb “ETRE” (= to be) in French Je suis… (I am…)

You use the verb “ETRE” to express Nationality or Profession Ex.: Je suis américaine. (I am american) Ex.: Vous êtes professeur ? (You are a teacher?) N.B.: Please note that in French you don’t say “you are a teacher” but “you are teacher”. The “a” is dropped off. USE “ETRE” to express Nationality or Profession
