3 www.monopoly.travel, 3 Hurghada The city of Hurghada is another major tourist attraction in Egypt. This city draws more than 2.5 million visitors every year, and yields more than 3 billion dollars to Egypt’s economy. Hurghada is located on the Red Sea coast, almost 550 Km from Cairo. Egyptian’s used to call it Ghardaka, from which the name of the city was derived. Hurghada stretches for about 60 Km along the Red Sea coast, and has more than 80,000 inhabitants: mostly immigrants from Upper Egypt, seeking investment and work opportunities in the this newly developed sea resort. Hurghada today has more than 170 hotels and it is still developing. Hurghada and the Red Sea coast enjoy a very moderate weather throughout the year, making it an ideal place for sea sports. Average temperature from March to November ranges from 26C to 29C, and in the hottest summer months the temperature can reach 33C. Water temperature is also very moderate, which makes it possible to practice diving throughout the year. The main tourist attraction in Hurghada is the marine life, with lots of coral and colourful fish, which is located very close to the shore: Hurghada has some of the finest coral in the world. If you like to practice diving, then Hurghada, or Sharm El-Sheikh, are your places to go,

4 www.monopoly.travel, 4 Shadwan Island Also called “Shaker Island”, Shadwan Island is the largest atoll of the strait of Gubal. At the northeastern side of the island, you’ll find an amazing almost vertical coral wall dropping to more than 40 metres. The current is usually mild and runs from south to north. Divers go along with the current to explore the wall on a drift dive. The reef is teeming with snappers and anthias, but bigger and far more interesting species are also regular visitors of the site. Divers have often encountered the presence white-tip reef sharks and grey reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, but most of all great pods of dolphins.

There are nice drift dives along the steep eastern walls and some coral eggs in the south. A cave named igloo can be found in the east in 18 meters of water, but there are also some other overhangs and swim through. Coral and marine life is vivid all around the island.
