Istituto Tecnico Industriale A.Monaco EURLAB BS I.1: MIDI connection MIDI out synth audio out External synth (expander) audio out MIDI in A very common MIDI configuration is made up of a MIDI messages generator device (e.g. a MIDI keyboard or a software on a computer) and a synthesizers that generates sounds. Usually, the two devices are part of the same electronic device.

Istituto Tecnico Industriale A.Monaco EURLAB Connection between MIDI devices is based on: - MIDI OUT - MIDI IN - MIDI THRU BS I.1: MIDI connection

Istituto Tecnico Industriale A.Monaco EURLAB BS I.1: MIDI connection The MIDI standard supports up to 16 cascading MIDI devices (MIDI channels). Therefore, with the same device (keyboard or computer) is possible to manage up to 16 external slave synthesizers (expanders) connected in cascade.

Istituto Tecnico Industriale A.Monaco EURLAB BS I.1: MIDI connection A MIDI cable is a simple connection between pins 2-4- 5 of a DIN plug

Istituto Tecnico Industriale A.Monaco EURLAB BS I.1: MIDI connection MIDI in interface uses an opto-isolated current loop. 5 Volts flows through a total of 660 Ohms (min.) of resistance. There is a protection diode in case someone wires up something backward. MIDI out is just a buffer and some resistors. MIDI thru is a buffered pass-through of the MIDI in signal. MIDI serial signal works at 31,250 bps with an asynchronous serial databps
