Healthy Food For Kids How to write the action plan

Identify – the nutritional requirements for children as set out in the Australian Dietary guidelines for Children and adolescents. Discuss how these influences would impact on the menu choices for a days food for a child Make and state a decision about a dish that you will make that would be suitable to include as a dinner for the child’s menu Justify this choice in terms of how the nutritional value of the dish fits the child’s needs – use food choices to confirm this. Identify the implementation requirements. How will you make sure that your dish fulfils the practical requirements? You may use illustrations if these will help

Briefly state the task and what it covers. Don’t waste words here. Look at your task sheet. Include the setting and the basic requirements of the dish. (i.e. comply with dietary guidelines to combat childhood obesity) Eg: The practical task will involve working with a student from a Grade 1 class. The focus will be to develop safe working practices, food knowledge and skills. The meal needs to be healthy. See exemplarexemplar

What are the nutritional needs of children according to the Australian dietary guidelines for children and adolescents? What kinds of foods are suitable to feed children? (Low fat/salt/sugar; high fibre) What role will food choices play in your decision? (nutritional needs of children have to be met) Are there other considerations?

Which recipe have you decised to make for dinner? Eg. Decision: Tuna and vegetable cheesy pasta bake. What will the rest of the menu be? Put in a table with the whole day’s menu set out over the day

Say why this dish is an appropriate choice. How does it fit in with dietary guidelines? What nutrients does the dish contribute to the child’s diet (see food choices analysis) How will it appeal to children? How would the food be kept safe?
