1 Tsunamis ‘a special type of wave where the entire depth of the sea or ocean is set in motion by an event, often an earthquake, which displaces the water above it and creates a huge wave’ TASK 1 – Write down the title ‘Tsunamis’ and the definition of what a tsunami is in your book.

3 Use this link to help you draw out the outline map: http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/asia/outline/jp.gif Then add the plate boundaries and rupture area, using the images below: TASK 3 – Draw out the outline of Japan in your book (underneath the definition of tsunamis) – you should take up the whole page. Then add the plate boundaries.

4 Add a north arrow. Mark on the location of Tokyo, Sendai and Fukishima Nuclear Power Station. Label the main islands. You can use Google Maps to help you: https://maps.google.co.uk/ TASK 4 – Add the following information to your map.

5 Mark on the location of epicentre, the magnitude of the earthquake, the depth of the focus and the time that it occurred. 6 Watch this video and write some notes to give more information about the earthquake/tsunami.
