Using the M1 to Control PulseWorx UPB Lighting

Type your question in the Questions box of the GoToWebinar Control Panel on the right side of your screen – We will get to as many questions as we can during the webinar – Any unanswered questions will be addressed in the follow-up email

Leading designer and provider of personalized security, energy conservation management and convenience solutions Established in 1993, located in Hildebran, NC – Founded by Veteran Team of Industry Pioneers Known for innovative and superior quality products backed by industry leading technical support and warranties

Scott Klodowski – Director of Sales and Marketing – 30 Years experience in PLC Lighting Controls – Also a Techie – Loves Sailing

A US Manufacturer and Engineering company of Lighting Controls since 1992 – Celebrating our 19 th Anniversary of experience, we know lighting control, it is our passion and focus. – First to introduce Powerline based “scene” lighting controls. – Inventors of the patented UPB Technology and leading experts since it was introduced in 1999 – Developers of UPStart™ Configuration Software UPB programming software

What is UPB? Universal Powerline Bus is a patented communication standard that uses the electrical wiring in a home. – Introduced 12 years ago in 1999 – Has since become the Industry Standard of professional installers for powerline-based communication – 9 Licensee’s & 100’s of Partners

How Does UPB Work? Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) – Data is encoded by positioning pulses at certain windows (points on the electrical sine wave) – Like a Cannon Shot Strong signal travels great distance – MINIMUM of 40Vpp - Can be as strong as 70Vpp – Up to 1000 linear feet Low frequency signal (4khz - 40khz) – like a Subwoofer – Signals travels better with less attenuation and far fewer errors Two-way communication – ensures ultra-reliability, acknowledging commands

KPCD-6KPCW-6WS1DLM-1OCMFMD/R 120V Part 1 Transmitters Keypads - Interfaces Part 2 Receivers Load Control Modules PIM E

Security, Fire, Access Control, Lighting, HVAC, Energy & Task Management Provides scheduled automation of virtually anything electrical in a home or business Pleasing voice announces system status onsite and provides voice message alerts to the consumer via phone Can be controlled over the internet & provide email alerts to the consumer User Interfaces include Touchscreen & LCD keypads, arming stations, tablets, smart phones, PCs, and phones

Provides Convenience, Energy Savings, Safety & Security – Control lighting based on occupancy, arm state, time of day, light/dark outside, and more Ease of Installation & Integration Flexibility & Scalability Great for Retrofit or New Construction

M1 Gold Control M1XSP PIM-R The M1XSP connects to the PIM-R with a standard serial sable The M1XSP connects to the M1 data bus The Old Way

M1PCSPIM (PIM-E) The M1PCSPIM (PIM-E) is an all-in-one device providing an easy, permanent connection from the M1 Control to the UPB network. Connects directly to the M1 Data Bus Note: Cannot be used with UPStart Software M1 Gold Control The New Way

Device Configuration also known as Editing / Defining Options and Programming

Adding Devices – Two Ways to Add Device to Config File – On Line – Off Line Single Device Add – We use the Single Device method

Device Found This step finds and reads the devices configuration Operation Successful Click OK

Defining a Device Type Room Name – PW Demo Type Device Name – Left Dimmer Unit ID is automatic – Can be adjusted – Make sure you NEVER have two items with the same Unit ID MAKE SURE THE ERASE EXISTING CONFIGURATION IS CHECKED!!!! If you do not Erase Existing Configuration, the factory default links will be added to UPStart, Links 1-6 and 8

Device Added & Defined – NOT YOU This step writes the information to the device – Room Name – Device Name – Network ID – Unit ID Operation Successful Click OK

Programming Summary The device has now been added It will show – Manufacturer – Product type – Network Name – Name of device Click Done

Display Pane Device appears in the Display Pane Design Pane – Displays – Rooms – Links – Schedules If TEC is added Display Pane

Off Line Add Device Must disconnect from PIM Add Device – Wizard shows up – Select Device you want – Room & Device Name – Summary

Device Configuration also known as Editing / Defining Options and Programming

WS1D - Options A wide Varity of OPTIONS can be set in our switch – ID Tab (Unit ID, Room Name) – Rocker Switch (Manual Function) – Options – Receive Components (Scenes) – Transmit Components (Broadcast Links) – Advanced (Received Sensitivity Adjustment) – Test – Communication Test (Two Way Communication Test)

KPC6 - Options A wide Varity of OPTIONS can be set in this device – ID – Options – Keypad TX – Indicators – Advanced – Test – Communication Test

There are 4 ways to Add or Modify Links – Use the Manual Link Editor “MLE” Edit on the Transmit and Receive tabs of each device – Use the Visual Link Editor “VLE” Graphical drag and drop based tool – Use the Dialog Link Editor “DLE” Select from menu Network – Link Names – Use the Link Builder
