In 2002, the ALU-TUCP Constitution was amended to include a provision that states (a) the Union should have a Committee on Women; (b) the National Executive Board, upon the recommendation of the National Executive Officials, should approve its rules and structures; (3) the elected Committee on Women Chairperson shall be ex-officio members of the National Executive Board On 22 November 2008, the Committee on Women rules and structures were approved by the National Executive Board ALU was founded in 1954 (more than half a century after) while TUCP in 1975 (33 years after)

DEVELOPMENT MAINSTREAMING GENDER EQUALITY AT WORK AND TRADE UNION LEADERSHIP GENDER-RESPONSIVE WORK TERMS & CONDITIONS & MORE EFFECTIVE PARTICIPATION IN DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES IMMEDIATE At the end of the project, ALU should be able to identify its women local union leaders and members (document their background, accomplishments, concerns, issues, hopes and plans, including their ITC capabilities and needs)

Identify women local union leaders and members; document their background, accomplishments, concerns, issues, needs, hopes and plans Output: data base on women trade union leaders and members Activities Communications/consultations/coordination with federation educators and women leaders – rationale, objectives, defining responsibilities, timelines, etc., by April 2009 Re/circulation of National Executive Board approved Committee on Women rules and structures to Area/Regional Vice Presidents by May 2009
