Welcome to Back-to-School Night in Mrs. Staub’s 1 st Grade Class Take a walk around the halls and inside the classroom to get a sense of the learning environment and look at some of the work we’ve done so far!

Let’s Get to Know Mrs. Staub! I have my BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading from Shippensburg University. I have my BA in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading from Shippensburg University. I have my Masters Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Rider University. I have my Masters Degree in Reading and Language Arts from Rider University. I am a certified Reading Specialist I am a certified Reading Specialist I have been teaching in Montgomery for ten years. I have been teaching in Montgomery for ten years.

More About Mrs. Staub! I grew up in Delaware and I love to spend time at the shore. When I am not wearing my heels, you can find me in my flip-flops, reading on the beach! I enjoy spending time with my family, husband, and friends. I love coffee! I enjoy working on our house (and decorating), shopping, cooking, and traveling to new places. Most of all, I absolutely love teaching!

A Typical Day in Mrs. Staub’s Class 9:30-9:45- Morning Routines 9:45- 10:00- Morning Meeting 10:00-11:00- Writer’s Workshop (9:45-10:25 on Days 1, 3, 5) Special 10:25-11:05 (Day 1- Gym, Day 3-Library, Day 5-Gym) 11:05-11:50- Lunch/Recess 11:55-12:10- Paper Pass, HAS, Read Aloud, and Read-to -Self 12:10-1:10- Guided Reading, Word Work, Daily Five Centers Snack 1:10-1:20 1:20-2:15-Math and Math Centers 2:15-2:55- Special: Day 1-Art Day 2- Spanish, Day 3-Gym, Day 4- Spanish, Day 5-Music, Day 6- Computers 2:55-3:40- Science/Social Studies, Word Work, Talk Time, Afternoon Meeting 3:40-4:00: Dismissal

What does Guided Reading look like in our classroom? The teacher works with small groups of students who use similar reading strategies and/or read similar levels of text with teacher support Students then read the book individually while the teacher listens in, providing support, and observing areas of strength and areas to provide support and teaching Other students are working independently at various classroom literacy centers while the teacher is meeting with guided reading groups

We will focus on the following concepts during Math in Focus this year: Building problem-solving skills and strategies Counting, comparing, and writing numbers to 100 Adding and subtracting 1-digit and 2-digit numbers Classifying and sorting shapes and patterns Measuring length and weight Using calendars, time, and money Use Calendar Math during Morning Meeting to reinforce concepts taught during Math

K-4 Science and Social Studies Students will learn about their communities and the world around them through: Social Studies Culture and Diversity Geography and map skills American symbols and history Science Scientific investigations in Life, Earth, and Physical Sciences Developing Science Process Skills, such as Observation, Hypothesis, Scientific Drawing, Measurement and Collecting Data Engineering projects embedded within units of study At all grade levels, there is an increased focus on non-fiction and informational texts in both Science and Social Studies
