Solving Problems with Harmonics
2
Example 1 A glass pipe put inside a graduated cylinder filled with water will have a closed ending where the water starts. Using a 288Hz tuning fork, the sound is loudest when 0.3m remains outside the water. Calculate the speed of sound.
3
Example 2 A Vuvuzela is an instrument that was commonly used at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It is an open pipe of about 1.1m. If the speed of sound in South Africa is 344m/s, find the resonating frequency.

Harmonics

Example 3 A saxophone found in a basement straightened out would be 1.7m long as an open pipe. If the speed of sound is 343m/s, find the first three resonating frequencies.
10
Example 4 A closed pipe instrument used in Tajikistan is 1.2m long. If the speed of sound is 343m/s, find the first 4 harmonics (frequencies) for this instrument.

Try these 4 problems. Turn it in as soon as possible
