Presentation of Master of medical and imagery physics Rajaa Cherkaoui El Moursli, Mohammed V – Agdal University, Rabat, Morocco Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology,

OUTLINE Architecture of Master in Morocco Master Program at UM5A Collaboration R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 2 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Architecture at UM5A Candidates for the Master of Medical Physics are expected to have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences with a major in physics, or an equivalent degree The Master of Medical Physics is undertaken over four semesters (full-time) (Two years) R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 3 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A During the first three full-time semesters, students undertake the following lecture course units: First year, First semester : – M1: Nuclear Physics and mathematic – M2 : Anatomy and Biology Essentials for Physicists – M3 : 2 elements - Physical basis of the medical use of ionizing radiation - Introduction to Radiation Protection – M4 : Tools and methods - English - informatics (C++, Geant4 + Gate + Root) R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 4 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A First year, second semester : – M5 : Radiation Physics and Dosimetry – M6: Image processing and Medical Imaging Physics. – M7 : Health Physics and Radiation Protection – M8 : Tools and methods - Archiving and data transmission - English R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 5 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A second year, third semester : – M9 : Nuclear Medicine Physics – M10 : Radiology Physics – M11 : Radiotherapy Physics – M12: Tools and methods - Radiation protection practice - Techniques of speech and writing R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 6 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A second year, fourth semester : – Clinical Practicum (equivalent to 4 modules). – With guidance from the practicum advisor, the student will also select an appropriate topic or project and will prepare a paper of appropriate length and presentation to be given at the end of the semester R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 7 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A Seminar Series: All students in the Medical Physics Master Program will be required to attend the Medical Physics Seminar Series as part of their medical physics course requirements. This series will be clinically oriented and will survey the various subspecialties of medical physics R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 8 Workshop PCJ 2011

Details of the program M1: – Nuclear Physics (Radiation, radiation interactions, detectors) – mathematic (Probability and statistics, Monte Carlo technics) M2 : – Anatomy : Taught by a radiation oncologist, this medical physics course will focus on major organ systems and disease areas – Biology Essentials for Physicists (Fundamental knowledge of mechanisms and biological responses of human beings to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation through the study of effects of radiation on molecules, cells and humans; radiation lesions and repair; mechanisms of cell death; cell cycle effect, radiation sensitizers and protectors; tumor radiobiology) R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 9 Workshop PCJ 2011

Details of the program ―M3 : 2 elements Physical basis of the medical use of ionizing radiation Physical principles of diagnostic radiology, fluoroscopy, computed tomography; principles of ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging; radioisotope production, gamma cameras, SPECT systems, PET systems, accelerators Introduction to Radiation Protection: ; radiation interactions; biological effects and safety guidelines; radiation detection, instrumentation and protection. ―M4 : Tools and methods (English + informatics (C++, Geant4 + Gate) R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 10 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A – M5 : Radiation Physics and Dosimetry Methods of radiation absorbed dose calculations for photons, neutrons, and charged particles – M6: Image processing and Medical Imaging Physics. Covers the basic principles of mathematical analysis, the Fourier transform, interpolation and approximation of functions, sampling theory, digital filtering and noise analysis. Application to medical image. R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 11 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A – M7 : Health Physics and Radiation Protection Radiation protection pervades the various subspecialties of medical physics. Special attention is given to detection equipment and shielding analysis. The emphasis in this topic is to provide a broad knowledge base supportive of the varied environments of medical physics. – M8 : Tools and methods (Archiving and data transmission + English). R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 12 Workshop PCJ 2011

Master Program at UM5A – M9 : Nuclear Medicine Physics The basics of nuclear medicine physics are addressed in this section, including discussion of gamma cameras, positron emission tomography (PET) systems, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) systems, and newer technology systems such as PET/CT systems – M10 : Radiological Physics Physical principles of diagnostic radiology R. Cherkaoui El Moursli Valencia 10th – 13th Januray 13 Workshop PCJ 2011
