Importance of PD/H/PE in Schools Promotes an active and balanced lifestyle. Educates students about their health and well being. Provides students with knowledge about relationships, emotions, their bodies, gender, road safety, nutrition and sports.

Why am I an advocate for the teaching of PD/H/PE in schools? By teaching PD/H/PE in schools, students can learn, develop and implement the information they are given into their everyday life. I believe that when a child has a well balanced lifestyle, consisting of a healthy diet, physical activity and health knowledge, they perform at their optimum level, which is crucial for their growing bodies.

Why teach it at school? School is where a student spends most of their day. Teachers are the people students turn to for advice, support and help. The most valuable information a teacher can provide their students with, is knowledge of a healthy lifestyle. As teachers are role models, students are more likely to act on this knowledge and grow as a result.

How you can help Promote physical activity after school hours and on weekends. Expose your child to a wide variety of fruit and vegetables to promote healthy eating, but do not neglect them from eating ‘sometimes food’. Balance is key. Talk to your child about the PD/H/PE issues they are learning about in class and provide them with extra learning activities in the home to further enforce the importance of their health and well being.
