Formatting Each Page Times New Roman Size 12 font Double Spaced Title of Page Adjective Symbol Paragraph Ebenezer Scrooge is portrayed as aloof throughout Stave I of “A Christmas Carol,” a novel originally written by Charles Dickens. He is akin to a cat who avoids others and stays hidden in the unoccupied rooms of the house. He prefers to be left alone– shunning any attempts at petting or cuddling. Throughout the drama, Scrooge is shown as “…solitary as an oyster” (3). He frequently avoids any interaction with other people, and when he is forced to interact, he is often distant and brief. For example, he is portrayed as walking alone with a scowl on his face through the holiday decked streets of London: “No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o’clock, no man or woman ever once inquired the way to such and such and such a place, of Scrooge” (3). This isolation is not only keenly felt by the reader, but it is evident that Scrooge purposely avoids contact with people. He is hardened and refuses to feel any emotion with other humans. Ultimately, Scrooge remains aloof and distant from other people. STAVE 1 ALOOF
