25. Columns, Rows, and Marks For most types bar/line charts, you have to have at least one variable in the “Column” bar and at least one variable in the “Row” bar. Specifying a “Mark” variable causes whatever graph is already on your screen to be sliced up by that variable – so you can investigate how differences in one metric (ie age, income etc.) influence changes in another.
