Then on February 5, 2003 Colin Powell presents his case to invade Iraq to the UN security council, but America's allies are unmoved (warchronicle). 3. What and why The reason why we invaded Iraq in the second gulf war was for one reason. That reason being that the Iraqi government and Saddam would not let UN chemical inspectors into the country, as this along with economic sanctions were some of the rules set after the first Gulf War. So on march 17, 2003 bush gave Saddam an ultimatum; leave the country or in 48 hours we invade. Bush did exactly what he said he would do and on march 19, 2003 a hour after his deadline cruise missals stated to rain down onto Bagdad. (warchronicle) but in recent years it was reviled that Iraq did not have possession of any chemical weapons, and the main reason that we invaded was because of oil. (popular social science)
