“ZEN JUDAISM” If there is no self, whose arthritis is this? Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated? Wherever you go, there you are. Your luggage is another story. Accept misfortune as a blessing. Do not wish for perfect health or a life without problems. What would you talk about? The Torah says, "Love thy neighbour as thyself." The Buddha says there is no "self." So, maybe you are off the hook. To Find the Buddha, look within. Deep inside you are ten thousand flowers. Each flower blossoms ten thousand times. Each blossom has ten thousand petals. You might want to see a specialist. To practice Zen and the art of Jewish motorcycle maintenance, do the following: get rid of the motorcycle. What were you thinking? Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this and attaining Enlightenment will be the least of your problems.

THE UNFORCED RHYTHMS OF GRACE (Breathing Like God) UNDERSTANDING CHURCH, KINGDOM AND YOUR PLACE IN BOTH

"I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery in Egypt. "Do not worship any other gods besides me. Exodus 20:2-3 "I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery in Egypt. "Do not worship any other gods besides me. Exodus 20:2-3 THE CALLING TO BE “CHURCH” Mar 1:16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. Mark 3:13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve… that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. "Are you tired? Worn out? Come to me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me…Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." "Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you what he promised. Remember, I have told you about this before…. 8 But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere- …to the ends of the earth." “COME-AND-GO” “BE” AND “DO” BE HEALED AS YOU HEAL INHALE AND EXHALE GRACE AND RESPONSE

People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved. Acts 13:1 The congregation in Antioch was blessed with a number of prophet-preachers and teachers: 2 One day as they were worshiping God and fasting… Matthew 6:16 “And when you fast, don't make it obvious, as the hypocrites do…” INHALE

Acts 3 - a man crippled from birth… 3 When he saw Peter and John… he asked for a handout. 4 Peter looked him straight in the eye and said, "Look here." 5 He looked up, expecting to get something from them. 6 Peter said, "I don't have money to give, but what I do have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!" 7 He grabbed him by the right hand and pulled him up. In an instant his feet and ankles became firm. 8 He jumped to his feet and walked. The man went into the Temple with them, walking back and forth, dancing and praising God. 9 Everybody there saw him walking around and praising God....All the people ran up to Solomon's Porch to see it for themselves... 12 Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd... RHYTHMS THAT “KEEP YOU FIT”  CHANGE PEOPLE’S EXPECTATION  SHARE YOUR FAITH  PERSECUTION AN INCENTIVE  SERVE THE POOR  BREAK BARRIERS Acts 4:1 While Peter and John were addressing the people, the priests, the chief of the Temple police, and some Sadducees came up, 2 indignant that these upstart apostles were instructing the people and proclaiming that the resurrection from the dead had taken place in Jesus. 3 They arrested them and threw them in jail until morning, for by now it was late in the evening. 4 But many of those who listened had already believed the Message--in round numbers about five thousand! Acts 8:1 (Stephen’s death) set off a terrific persecution of the church in Jerusalem. The believers were all scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. All, that is, but the apostles…. 4 Forced to leave home base, the Christians all became missionaries. Wherever they were scattered, they preached the Message about Jesus. EXHALE

Luke 10:2 He was telling them, "The harvest is vast, but the workers are few. So ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers out into his harvest. 3 Get going! See, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Don't carry a wallet, a travelling bag, or sandals, and don't greet anyone on the way. 5 "Whatever house you go into, first say, 'May there be peace in this house.‘ 6 If a peaceful person lives there, your greeting of peace will remain with him. But if that's not the case, your greeting will come back to you. 7 Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the worker deserves his pay. Don't move from house to house. 8 "Whenever you go into a town and the people welcome you, eat whatever they serve you, 9 heal the sick that are there, and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you!' Don’t pray any prayer you’re not prepared to be the answer to! Depend on God’s Grace, and go with a sense of purpose Be aware that by Grace you make a difference! Hang out with people, and observe the 3-foot rule Like Peter and John, there is something you “have”... Grace makes you a nice guy! Tell them why!

THE “CENTRIPETAL” MISSION OF THE CHURCH: How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the LORD has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting. Psalm 133 You are like light for the whole world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden, and no one would light a lamp and put it under a clay pot. A lamp is placed on a lampstand, where it can give light to everyone in the house. Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven Matthew 5:14-16

...their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food... These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the priests were converted... all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had... (Acts 6) Judge fairly, show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor... do not scheme against each other....The LORD says: I will live in Jerusalem....once again old men and women will walk Jerusalem’s streets with their canes and will sit together in the city squares. And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls at play. (Zechariah 7-8) THE “CENTRIPETAL” MISSION OF THE CHURCH:

For I am planting seeds of peace and prosperity among you....The earth will produce its crops, and the heavens will release the dew....In those days ten men from different nations and languages of the world will clutch at the sleeve of one Jew. And they will say, ‘Please let us walk with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’” (Zechariah 7-8) They spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread and prayed together. Everyone was amazed by the many miracles and wonders that the apostles worked. All the Lord's followers often met together, and they shared everything they had. They would sell their property and possessions and give the money to whoever needed it. Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely, while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47) THE “CENTRIPETAL” MISSION OF THE CHURCH: BE HOSPITABLE BLESS ONE ANOTHER BE PRESENT BE GENEROUS BLESS THE WORLD
