4. Who is it for?  Adult males (16+)  Convicted of domestic abuse offence(s) against a female (ex)partner  Subject to statutory Criminal Justice intervention; ie Probation order (with condition); Community Payback Order (with requirement); or post custody licence  Assessed as posing a moderate – high risk using SARA (Spousal Assault Risk Assessment) of re-offending  Stable mental health  Stable drug or alcohol use  No learning disability; ie able to cope with a cognitive- behavioural programme

5. Caledonian System – Checklist for CJSW Rpt authors  Male, aged 16+  Current offence involves domestic abuse against a female (ex) partner  Evidence of previous domestic abusive behaviour  Risk of Harm assessed as medium – high (RA3)  No absolute denial of offending behaviour  Literacy & cognitive ability to participate in CBT programme  Stable mental health  Stable drug and/or alcohol use  Stable accommodation If all of these boxes are ticked, a recommendation for a full Caledonian assessment may be made within the CJSW Report.

6. Women’s Service Any contact with the Women’s Service is voluntary. First contact at Assessment stage:  if woman declines offer, a further offer made if man starts the programme  if woman accepts she takes part in the assessment process: - if man is assessed as unsuitable for the programme, the woman is offered up to 4 contacts - if man is assessed as suitable, women’s service worker will be allocated

7. Men’s Programme A two year programme comprising:  Fourteen or more pre-group sessions  Minimum of twenty six group-work sessions  Maintenance work for remainder of order or licence

8. Pre-group sessions  Quick pick-up – start within 7 days  Engagement (forming a working alliance)  Enhancing motivation  Getting to know the man (and him to know himself)  Introduction to the tools needed for the group  First ‘personal plan’

9. Module Sexual respect Module Children & fathering Module Men and women Module Responsibility for and to self Module Lifelong change Module Responsibility within relationship Group work 6 modules each of 3-5 weeks. Men join at the beginning of first available module except “Sexual respect”.

10. Maintenance  Further encourage his responsibility for change  Address any unmet needs  Long term  Toolbox of skills  Productive use of the residue of the Order or licence  Reinforcement of positive change by other men

11. Women’s Service  Liaison with the men’s and children’s services throughout – assessment, client liaison meetings, joint risk assessment, joint visits to women, probation reviews  Multi-agency working – risk management, liaison with other workers, attending joint meetings, child and adult protection, referrals to other services  Safety planning  Crisis planning  Programme of activities  Dealing with assault, separation, legal issues, making sense of domestic abuse, healing after domestic abuse

12. Children’s Service  To ensure the rights of children are upheld and their needs are met  Informed by the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach  Collaboration with existing supports  Information sharing between men’s, women’s and children’s Caledonian services; and partner agencies as necessary  Limited direct work with children in relation to safety planning and advocacy, particularly during periods of transition  Specialism in domestic abuse resource for all
