Basketball Australia’s High Performance Objectives Key Outcome - Ensure the supply of talented players and coaches for our national teams. – Achieving sustained international success by Boomers, Opals, Gliders and Rollers. – Develop the support, tools and resources required by participants to deliver a long term athlete development plan. – To develop world class coaches trained to meet the needs in their contextual interaction with the athletes. – To develop a culture of long term basketball development. – To provide holistic development programs in Australia to enable athletes and coaches, through to the professional level, to pursue their goals. – Sustaining excellence through continuous improvement. Performance Strategy – Develop and implement performance pipeline from talent identification to the senior national teams. – Establish the highest attainable goals. – Estimate the number of athletes of sufficient calibre required to fill the pipeline. – Specify the performance staff, infrastructure and operational costs. – Maximise the number of opportunities from the budget available. – Specify the essential national framework, central systems and services.

BA DRIVEN “Performance” Pathway – Establish “performance” values – what Australian teams stand for, what they are best at. – Performance Director reporting direct to BA, linked to SIS/SAS working with SSO. – Accredited Delivery Centres providing “performance” coaching, through Individual Performance Plans linked to daily training environment, prioritized curriculum. – Athlete monitoring system providing monitoring of workloads, evaluation tools as well as online resource tools. – National Development Camps designed to identify and collect the best talent via the “performance” pathway for evaluation and elite coaching Australian Institute of Sport – Develop Men’s Program as Tournament based – National Technical Leadership from Head Coaches – National Web Based Skills Techniques a & Proficiency Resource SIS / SAS Network – Boomers / Opals linked to home state SIS/SAS when in Australia for services – Formal partnership for BA State Performance Director Our Key Outcomes Reinforce the AIS as National Centre of Excellence for Coach & Player Development Develop and introduce National Player and Coach Development Framework Create a system of Accredited Delivery Centres to deliver National Development Framework. Develop an Athlete Monitoring System to case manage all national squad athletes and ultimately link to Accredited Delivery Centres managing identified talented athletes. National Strength & Conditioning Program prioritised in National Development Framework and delivered in concert with SIS/SAS network. National Sports Medicine & Science personnel recruitment initiative

Why athletes receive TIS scholarships They have been endorsed by Basketball Australia as a potential international athlete. Athletes must stay on this list to maintain their scholarship. Scholarships are reviewed each year after Nationals. Australian profiles are rewarded as a result of performance at National Championships, Country Cup or through projection as a potential international athlete.

TIS Basketball Scholarship Tiers PROFESSIONAL TIER (Tier 1 & 2) This tier is for those athletes that have received a TIS scholarship whilst in Tasmania but have now progressed into professional ranks. The directive from Basketball Australia is that once an athlete makes a Senior National team that their home state would need to provide support to them whilst they are home. Support: To provide Strength and Conditioning access whilst on return to Tasmania To provide individual workouts and daily training environment whilst on return to Tasmania Expectation of athlete relationship: To be involved in mentoring current TIS scholarship holders To make themselves available for TIS sessions or camps at request of the TIS Basketball Coach whilst on return to Tasmania To make themselves available for any media on behalf of the TIS

AIS SCHOLARSHIP TIER (Tier 3) This tier is for current TIS scholarship holders that have obtained an AIS scholarship and reside in Canberra. Support: To provide Strength and Conditioning access whilst on return to Tasmania To provide individual workouts and daily training environment whilst on return to Tasmania To provide ACE support whilst on return to Tasmania Expectation of athlete relationship: To make themselves available for TIS sessions or camps at request of the TIS Basketball Coach whilst on return to Tasmania To make themselves available for any media on behalf of the TIS

TIS SCHOLARSHIP TIER (Tier 4) This tier is for current athletes that reside in Tasmania and have been identified through the TIS Emerging Talent Squad (ETS), State Development Program (SDP) or U14 Regional Development Program and endorsed by Basketball Australia as an athlete that has the potential to represent Australia at the international level. Support: Strength and Conditioning Including Musculoskeletal and Medical entry and exit screenings ACE support Weekly individual and team training sessions by the TIS Basketball Coach Camps by the TIS Basketball Coach Athlete training visits to the AIS Athlete Tours to Melbourne Bi Annual International Tour TIS clothing and training gear Athlete assistance where deemed appropriate Expectation of athlete relationship: Athletes to partake in all expectations of the program set by the TIS basketball coach Athletes to make themselves available for all TIS functions, events and media requests

EMERGING TALENT SQUAD (Tier 5) This tier is for those athletes that are identified by the TIS basketball coach as having potential as an Australian athlete at international level but have not yet obtained an Australian profile. This tier is camp based development (6 camps) and weekly training with TIS scholarship squad, that allows non-scholarship holders to obtain a higher level of profile. ETS members would have to be part of the SDP and would form the bridge from the state development tier to the TIS scholarship tier. Support: At home Strength and Conditioning programs 6 camps by the TIS Basketball Coach Athletes TIS weekly sessions in their region Athletes can be invited into TIS camps and tours by the TIS basketball coach Expectation of athlete relationship: Athletes to partake in all expectations of the program set by the TIS basketball coach

TIS Program operation Daily Training Environment: Daily Training Environment is conducted in the athlete’s home region (North West, South and North) Athletes will work with the TIS basketball coach twice a week 1 team session and 1 individual/group session per week (3 hours per week) Strength and Conditioning three times a week Additional shooting program (3 x 1hour per week in their own time) Camp Based Training Environment: Camps Based Training will be based out of Launceston with preference to be out of the Silverdome. Elphin Sports Centre as second option Every third week athletes will have a 1 day training camp based in Launceston Total of 15 per year Every school holiday period athletes will be based in Launceston and take part in 4 day training camps (in Tuesday am and out Friday midday) This is to replicate Australian Camp trainings Total of 5 per year Physical Testing: Testing will be done in accordance with Basketball Australia’s testing protocols Athletes will be tested three times a year September, January, March and June of each year scholarship year

State Development Program Top tier success does not occur with out sound Underpinning programs and the continued success of the TIS program and our Australian representatives is reliant on a continued successful pathway to elite level from U12s to TIS and beyond
