TURBINE ENGINE REMOVAL REASONS FOR: Engine Life Span (TBO) Usually specified components Not necessarily engine assembly Can go past TBO under approved inspection program Foreign Object Damage (FOD) Hot start Prop Strike

REMOVAL PREPARATION Disconnect battery Disconnect ignition system (wait per MMM) Disconnect fuel Removal propeller if applicable Disconnect all fluid lines Disconnect all electrical lines Disconnect all control linkages

Great Opportunity To; Clean and inspect engine cowling Repair and/or paint engine cowling/compartment Inspect/replace engine mounts Inspect/replace vibration isolators Inspect Thrust struts

Turbine Overhaul Manufacturer or Approved Facilty Disassembly usually into modules Most shops separate modules to different areas Each module further: Disassembled Cleaned Inspected Mandatory replacement items are marred and discarded

Bearings Tight design tolerances Use care when handling Gloves (lint-free cotton or rubber) Lint-free cloths Environmentally controlled room No shop air Only fresh solvents Keep them lubricated Corrosion Kills Man!

Visual Inspection Before NDI could save some $ Then NDI Liquid Penetrant Magnetic Particle Ultrasound Eddie Current X-ray Others as necessary Clean and retag acceptable parts Marr and dispose of rejected parts
