It is important to arrive at least two hours early Passenger drop- off and pick-up areas can be crowded. Different airlines are located in different terminals. It takes time to find the correct terminal and check-in areas. Lines can be long, especially during holiday travel times. What are two things you must remember when going to the airport?

“Checking in” means getting your boarding pass and handing over checked luggage to the ticket agent Check-in with an agent Check-in electronically What is online check-in? You need a boarding pass to get on the plane. You can have your boarding pass on your smartphone too.

“Checking” your luggage means it is going into the cargo section of the plane Put tags with your name and address on your luggage in case it gets lost. Why do you think some people put brightly colored tape on their luggage?

A passenger’s class or status can affect his or her flying experience Most airlines use a “class” system: First Class Business Class Economy Class or Coach Some airlines don’t have classes, but offer “status upgrades” like: Business elite Premium Select What do you think is the difference between first class and business class? Between business class and economy?

Make sure to bring your music, games, and homework! Passengers have a choice of beverages, including juice, soda, or water. They might get a small snack, such as peanuts or cookies. Most people spend their time reading or napping. How long is a flight from one coast of the United States to the other?

Remember to thank the flight attendants and the pilot! Look for departure screens in the airport to check that your connecting flight is on time. Exiting the plane is a great time to catch a glimpse of the cockpit. Ask for directions to baggage claim or to your connecting flight.
