THE TASK Research one of the three areas below and share with the class what you have found out. Use books, leaflets, internet and mobile phones. Research area one How can you stop smoking with the help of medicines? Must include what they are and where they are available from eg. patches, inhalators,gum Research area two What is the Smokefree together programme? Must include practical quit tools eg. Apps, ways to quit, advice, the programme, pregnancy Research area three What is the NHS stop smoking service? Must include how to access it, telephone number, email,effects of not smoking.

NOW LETS SHARE You will be put into groups of three One of you will have a role play character card One of you will be a person giving advice One of you will be an observer and will fill out the smoking cessation assessment

THE ROLE PLAY CHARACTERS You are a 27 year old smoker of 10 years who smokes 10 a day and has just found out you are pregnant You are a 16 year old smoker who smokes one or two a day. Recently, you are smoking more are you feel it helps reduce your stress but you are worried that you are smoking too much You are a 38 year old smoker who has just split up from a long term partner. You would like to quit smoking as money is tight, but you are not sure how to go about it. You have smoked 15-20 a day for the last 20 years.
