2. Background of the concept Key challenges derived from Vision 2050 1.Processes cost-efficiency and maximized throughput 2.Intermodality: enabling seamless flow between modes 3.Eliminations of bottlenecks at the terminal 4.Elimination of peak demand – spread the demand 5.Elimination of transfer delays 6.Extend information sharing beyond air transport 7.Finding common goals for stakeholders 8.Simplification of infrastructure to enable maximum throughput at lowest costs Frankfurt 04/02/2014The CE Airport Concept

5. CE concept solutions Best ideas Frankfurt 04/02/2014The CE Airport Concept Satellite Airport & City Center TerminalIntermodal transporation hub including airport terminal Sharing landside costs and revenuesShared-property commercial facilities High level of automation and integrationAutomated apron, integrated security systems Smarter AircraftAirplanes less dependent on ground facilities Screening on-the-goTHz-based security screening of walking passengers On-board self boardingAircraft systems aware of who's on board Fully Integrated IT ServicesNo service desk - use your smartphone! 6. Best ideas of the CE concept (1) Satellite Airport & City Center Terminal Frankfurt 04/02/2014The CE Airport Concept Intermodal transporation hub including airport terminal. In an extremely cost-sensitive world, resource sharing will be crucial. This may result in satellite airports with a passenger terminal located in the city center, shared among different transport modes and perhaps a shopping mall too.

Frankfurt 04/02/2014The CE Airport Concept 6. Best ideas of the CE concept (2) On-board self boarding Aircraft systems aware of who's on board. The Terminal is equipped with the advanced IT solutions that allows to identify passengers and provide personalised information for them, so that they can proceed to the aircraft without having checked several time and wait in different purpose ques. The final check is the boarding check that is to establish that the particular passenger is to board that particular aircraft. This is done by the aircraft built in on- board equipment based on biometric or other for example IT technology. (retina scan, fingerprint recognition, identification by the smart communication device, etc.)

Frankfurt 04/02/2014The CE Airport Concept 6. Best ideas of the CE concept (3) Remote Towers More efficient ATC service. Use of available controller resources and capacity on airports in adverse weather conditions. Avoid the cost of keeping dedicated controllers at some controlled airports that are not very frequently used. Avoid loss of capacity I case of low visibility operations in bad weather conditions Gain cost efficient and safe use of the capacity that regional airports provide to the air transport system while supporting the overall ATM infrastructure Ensure an efficient operation of smaller/regional airport ATM by economies- of-scale in improving allocation of staff No need for building a costly structure equipped with high cost equipment at every regional airport.

Frankfurt 04/02/2014The CE Airport Concept 6. Best ideas of the CE concept (+1) Walk through security check corridor A Time-efficient solution can be also Cost-effective… If the operation cost gains recover the higher investment cost in time than new ICT solution can support the CE concept. Positive impacts: Reduction in waiting time Seamless flow of passengers Implementation issues: Users’ acceptance
